Has anyone here invested in an Ott light? I'd like to hear the pros and cons from everyone. Also, for those of you who decided against buying one, do you use anything special in your sewing room for lighting?

Thanks all!

Needle Elf,

I have had an Ott light for over three years and I would shoot anyone that tried to take it away from me!!! As I get older, my eyesight gets worse (duh!!) and the Ott light helps so much. I love to cross stitch, but almost gave it up before I got my Ott Light. I just couldn't see, except in bright sun light. The Ott light gives me the necessary light needed to do cross stitch on 32 fabric. I even use it on my desk when I am sewing with my machines. I get a true color and can really see. If you are thinking about getting one, do it. Yes, they are a little pricey, but it makes all the difference in the world, especially doing close work.

i am another ott lite lover, you can find cheaper ones at office stores, half the price of ones that they sell at quilt shops, they also have many differant styles going these days too.

I wouldn't give up my Ott light for anything. Have had it for years & bulb is still same one. Mine is an 18 watt & I suggest you don't get anything smaller. Have a 13 watt on my desk & don't care for it, not enough light. I also have the magnifier that fits on the lamp ( for 18 watt ) & love it. That you can buy separate. The Ott lights are so much better than other brands out there, at least what I think. If you have a Tuesday Morning store near you sometimes they carry Ott lights cheaper.Jo Ann's carry them now & you can use a coupon if they aren't on sale.

I have 2 ott lights...hate the things...my eyesight is bad, but for some reason the ott lights don't do a thing for me...now my husband likes the things for his computing/photo shop stuff...but I never turn them on anymore.

I have 3 Ott lights love them. I gave my dad an Ott light for Christmas one year, he was legally blind and needed special high powered glasses to read with. When he tried it he was amazed at how much clearer it was for him to read, no glare. They are pricey but I feel they are worth it for task lighting. My older sister just bought one due to the fact that she does x-stitch and was having a hard time. I showed her mine and gave her my x-stitch and she said yep need one of these. I am in favor of you buying one.

I have one on my sewing desk... I use it especially if I need to match colors of embroidery thread... I need to get another one, because just one is not enough... yea... mine is just a 13watt... if I had it to do over again, I'd get the 18 watt... once of these days, i'll use a 40% off coupon at joann''s for the 18 watt...

I use it in my craft room. I don't have good lighting in that room, so this being on the table that I work on has been a bonus! I'm also thinking of upgrading to the floor model with the magnifier.

Did you know that you can get Ott lights at Tuesday Morning?? (Incase you haven't heard of this place it is a close out store). Was in ours just yesterday and saw one.
I haven't ever used one so I'm not sure if they are better or not.
I use those Reveal light bulbs in my lamps and I find that they produce nice lighting.
Maybe when I get more into sewing and quilting I will get me a Ott!
