My kids finished up this week. I thought it was going to be great not having to wake them up so early and dd had to be at cheerleader practice at 8:00 am this morning. At least it won't be every day. When does school finish up in other areas? |

[sigh] My kids just finished yesterday. I can tell it's summer; they woke me up this morning with a knock-down-drag-out brawl.... The first of many, I'm sure. I just don't understand why they have to fight about everything.... "He took my pie" "She ripped by picture" "He bit me" "She farted" "Yeah, but he BIT me"..... I can't wait for school to start. I honestly wish it went all year. "No more twist! No more twist!"

Yesterday was our last day. We go back the end of August, the 22 I believe. My kids also started off the vacation with a fight. My four year old was in tears saying "I hate my big sister. I hate my big brother." They wouldn't let her play with them.

My kids go back around the 9th of August or somewhere around there. It's way too early to me. It's sooooo hot here then. I would rather they get out the end of June so they could wait to start back in Sept like we did when I was in school. The high school is on block scheduling now. They get half the school year in by Christmas. They also have to go several more days than we did years ago. |

It is half term here starting today, back to school on the 2 June and term then ends at the end of July. We go back the first week in September. It was weird having my daughter home from Uni saying term was over when the schools all still have 7 weeks to go!

So you have about 8 weeks in the summer then Sherri? We have about 5 1/2 with finishing last week in July and starting back first week in September. THe autumn term generally ends about 20/21st December and there is a 2 week holiday before Spring term. 2 weeks off over Easter and it is back to the summer term. We get 1 week off in the middle of these terms for a 1/2 term break. This makes for a 39 week teaching year, I believe. Children here start school in the term before they are 4 going to nursery, either mornings or afternoons and start mainstream school in the term in which they are 5 - I think. Then in September you go up a year to Year 1. September birthdays are quite late starters.

Our students got out on May 20th. They return on August 5th. We would prefer not starting till September and then going into June, but teachers/parents/locals have no say in the matter. We can decide when to start within a 2 week window, I think. The surrounding counties do not always start and end at the same time we do. The students go to school 180 days here. |

The official last day of school here was May 26, but my daughter had been out for almost 2 weeks because she is a senior this year--seniors get out one week early and the next week is test week, but many of them qualify for exemptions and don't have to take the finals. My daughter only had to take one final. She is my baby and headed to college so we don't have any sibling fights, but her late nights are going to kill me! LOL She thinks the day begins at 9 p.m.! That's when she goes out to be with her friends. She always comes home by her curfew. There has been talk here (Texas) of a new state law that would require all districts to start the day after Labor Day. I don't know when the end of school would be if that law were to be passed. |

My GD gets out on the 20th of June. When I was teaching we went all year. Never had the big vacation break that other received. For us it was a given for other schools that tried the all year it has its pro's and cons. Summer Summer
