Hi. I saw this absolutely beautiful vintage pattern online today. I need a 50's dress for an upcoming event and it is perfect. But, it is two sizes too small. Is there any way that I could enlarge it without distorting the shape of the garment or should I look for another dress. The website only has this dress in the one size.

Hi Danielle, I think if you compare your measurements with the patterns, it might help you decide.

You might want to try overlaying a pattern piece from something you've already made to see where adjustments are needed. That's helped me in the past.

June's idea is probably the easiest from the standpoint of getting all the difficult proportions like shoulders right. You might even want to just find a pattern that has the same basic lines and lay it under your vintage pattern. The pattern sizes pre-1964 or so are considerably different in scale than the current patterns. You may be a little shocked when you open it up.
