Hi Mary, It is such a coincidence you posted this article. I own three of these handy tools. I have used them to repair our old pop-up tent camper many years ago, to just last week, I used it on a customer's Jeep door/window. His plastic window's zipper broke and I replaced it for him. I could sew some of it on my Sailrite sewing machine, but part of it had a metal frame in that I couldn't remove, so I got out my handy sewing awl and finished the job. They really do work. You can still purchase needles, bobbins and thread for them.
