I have another question regarding trousers, I have a new pattern Kwiksew on the suggestion of this forum which I have not started as yet. The finished bottoms according to the pattern back is 161/2 which I think is too wide. Is it just question of taking in the seam allowances to adjust to the width I think is right. I know about the marks on the pattern to adjust the length of leg etc but not sure about the width being too much. I don't like to give up and I am trying to learn to get better at making my own trousers and shirts if I can. I appreciate all of the help that I have been given on this forum and find it very useful. Many thanks in advance. |

Have you measured your store bought jeans to see how wide they are? Summer Summer

The store bought ones are 9inch bottoms, as you can tell the pattern says finished width at bottom edge 161/2. I guess the fashions change but the patterns don't necessary keep up. The design otherwise is the same as the bought ones just the finished leg bottoms. |

wp88 make your adjustment to the pattern before you even lay it out to cut. Pick the best place on the leg and start tapering down to the bottom to the finished width you want plus a 5/8", or whatever size seam allowance you prefer, on each side. It is important that you find the center of the leg on the pattern and make your adjustment the same on each side of the leg. You will also have to do the same adjustment to both the front and the back of the pattern pieces. Patsy Patsy

Thank you for the information as I thought I could cut out the pattern as it was meant to be and then adjust the legs by timming each side equally. Doing it on the pattern should be easier. |
