Ok, I realize I'm showing my age now, but I'd like to make some Dr Denton's for my granddaughter but can't find any type of pattern at all for non stretchy flannel pj's that are smaller than size 2. Could I use a pattern for the 'onsies' or sleepers that call for stretchy fabric and use the flannel?? The only other thing I thought of was trying to find a pattern for a long sleeved t-shirt with rib neck and sleeves, but what do I do as far as feet in the little pants?? Any great suggestions??

The "Dr Denton's" that I remember having for my children years ago were of a knit fabric. The snapped up the back and around the waist and had feet. Is it this style you are looking for? If it is they really need to be stretchy so the little ones can move and stretch and the fabric stretch with them. There are some patterns out there that do use flannel (be aware the cute prints are seldom flame retardant) for size 2 and below. They have velcro on the shoulders. My granddaughters told me they didn't like them the shoulders opening up. It wasn't the velcro because I used the soft velcro for garment construction. They just didn't like the way they felt at the shoulders. The only other suggestion I have is make a loose button up top and a pair of pants. For my grandsons I made a v-neck top like you see on scrub tops and these worked well for them. One pair I even used the snaps around the waist as this grandson liked to take his diaper off before Mom was ready for it to come off. It wasn't a pretty sight when he did that.

Brockie, you are right, now that I think about it, the Dr Denton's were stretchy. Man is it ever hard to find cute knits for babies! Our local fabric store has some Carter's knits but in the past year, its been the same fabric which is ugly! There are 5 different fabric patterns to choose from and I don't think that they have ever sold any of it.

I agree. I also like 100% cotton knits for my kids which is also hard to get. I have been happy with the products at wazoodle (http://wazoodle.com/).
