Is there a transparent thread recommended for sewing with lycra?

I don't know if there is any thread that is transparnet for use on lycra, but I do know that I would not use the nylon type. I do longarm machine quilting and would never use the nylon. It is reported to get brittle as it ages. I only use a monopoly type. Do not be fooled by any other labeling. It must say monopoly. We can get that type at a local Hancock Fabric store. Check there, or do a search online.
This monopoly seems quite thin, but it is surprisingly strong.
What are you wanting to make? Swimwear?
If so, I would suggest trying the monopoly on it. You will probably have to release tensions quite a bit for with added tensions, the thread wants to stretch out. So release the tension top or bottom where you have the mono threaded. Do a practice piece. Then wash and wash and pull etc. Check out how it holds up before using in any high stress area.

Good luck with this.

Hi there,
I use metroscene or the big spools of long fiber polyester thread (serger thread). I've been doing this on lycra ice skating costumes since 1989.
Also, I've only used a regular sewing machine. Two row of very tiny zigzag on each seam. They usually last thru two or three ice skaters.

I use thread the color of the fabric. I also use the clear elastic for the legs and if I put any around any neck type openings or the sleeveless type.
