The headline on a weather article in our newspaper said, "Thank Canada for Cooler Temperatures". It seems there is a low front around the Canadian border that is causing our Arizona temperatures to be below 100 degrees all this week. Considering a couple of weeks ago they were above normal.........this is wonderful. So Canada and all my friends there........I thank you, my hubby who has yard work he wants to do thanks you, my grandkids who get to play outside more thank you, my tomatoes and cucumbers thank you...............for the great break in the hot, hot weather!! It was 95 today but compared to 105, that is downright cool. Norma |

The "cool" temperatures that we are sending your way is relative...the cold front must be coming from Western Canada. Because here in Ottawa we are in the middle of a "heat" wave. Since Friday temperatures have been around 30° C (approx. 88° F) and with the humidex it feels like 37° C (approx. 96° F). So you are getting the same weather that we are. The normal temps for this time of year is around 22°C (approx. 72° F). TTFN from

I'm with Norma.....THANK YOU Canada and all my swn buddies up there! 95 while hot is indeed cooler than it has been and I have been enjoying the evenings and early mornings as they are even cooler! Sometime in June we'll be lucky to cool down to 90 at night so I'm really enjoying this now!! You can have all the heat you want, if I could bottle it for you I would indeed!! LOL Lyn

I am with you on that one Lyn..........if we could just take the top layer of temps. and skim it off and bottle it up and send it north. I can handle about 85 if the nights and evenings cool down. It won't be long before the temperature will be still over a hundred while we are watching the ten o'clock news................ Our garden is doing so good and this is the time of year when it usually decides that it is just not worth the effort...........so I am babying the tomatoes, corn and cucumbers along and the cooler day time temps really help. My grand daughter wanted to plant the corn and I do so want to have her pick some and cook it for her to eat............. |

The weather we get here from Canada is usually nothing to say thank you for. It tends to come in January and February and is something they should just keep to themselves. But they are nice people. Dorothy |

Norma, if the temps hold you should be able to cook that corn! Wish I still had a yard-that's one thing I really miss living in an apt! A yard for my garden! I'm trying to garden in pots but I'm finding flowers work better than veggies! I could do 85 degrees year round even if it cools off at night! At 85 I don't even turn my a/c on-just open the windows.

You guys are making me very sad. I can't remember the last day we had sun, but it was earlier last - yes LAST - week. I actually had to turn on the furnace today, it was so cool and damp. If this is what England is like, they can have it!! LOL Maggi Have a great day! :)

Hey Maggi, maybe we can make some money by building a heat pipeline. We could pipe the heat from those hot spots all the way up here and sell it in Manitoba. We'd just have to make sure to pipe it my way in the winter. Then everyone would be happy! ROLF! This weather is soooo wierd. We have been in the 30's since last week then today we just barely made it to 20° (68° F). Tomorrow's forecast for 28° again. TTFN from

If this is what England is like, they can have it!! LOL Maggi Oh we have it we have it big time. A little sunshine last week in the North West, but this week.....high winds, heavy rain and it's - wait for it - all of 10 degrees out there. My DD sighed and put her summer school uniform back in the wardrobe, put on her trousers, heavy shoes, fleece jacket and padded coat to keep the damp out. It's supposed to be like this for the foreseeable future - just in time for end of summer term activities like sports days and trips out. We just have to hope that it doesn't rain on 15th July, which is St. Swithins day. If it rains then we will have rain for the next 40 days and nights. |

I hope you weren't insulted by my comment. It is still wet, and gloomy here and it is starting to take a heavy toll on my mental health - not to mention my tomatoe plants that are totally water-logged and turning yellow ;( Maggi Have a great day! :)

Typically the old lady next door had some turf laid and now it refuses to rain - still chilly though. I am to be found spraying water over the fence when she is not looking. (I act as a stealth gardener - her husband was the gardener and since he died it's all going pearshaped. Trouble is, if she catches me at it she tries to pay me which is hard to refuse for her prides sake. She is giving me bottles of wine in lieu but only when she catches me - hence the ninja watering skills) Temperate climate - warm wet winters, hot dry summers! Thank heavens for the Gulf Stream - if we lose that will be freezing! Here's hoping for Sy Swithins Day! Hey, Dom Goddess - how can Royal Ascot be in York? It makes no sense! love and kisses, Jan

I'm just sorry that you have to experience what we have to put up with for most of the year. Great Britain is only small, but the weather is quite diverse. I can sit and watch rain going past my window horizontally while talking to my Grandma on the phone while she's feeling too hot only 270 miles away. I'm going to do a little rain dance outside and see if I can send some down to Jan for her neighbour's new turf - I'm sure the ninja moves can be used for something else Jan, I agree that Royal Ascot at York seems strange - but work at Ascot meant the races had to be held elsewhere. I felt so sorry for the ladies in all their finery having to hold onto their hats and getting their high heels stuck in the soggy ground. Typical weather for June though - and as Wimbledon will soon be upon us, the south will get some rain soon............. |

Oh how I wish you were all here..........it turned to summer today with a high of 104! You know it is summer here when you feel a breeze and it is HOT! We have hundreds of little green cherry tomatoes that we are babying.....which at these temps means you water when they wilt not on a regular schedule.............got cucumbers that I hope make it too. No rain in sight and it has been a long time since we had rain...........called summer in the desert...........yuck! Norma |
