Hi all
I will try this route as nothing has turned up on web searchs. I am looking for a topsy turvey doll pattern. She is asleep on one side and flips over to be awake - is about 12-14" in size and has articulated arms. She has a sweet face that is in three pieces giving her some depth. These three pieces are the key. There is a lot on the web but tend to have very simple faces or are mystical. The face on the one I am looking for is the face of a doll I had as a child and on one I made my daughter but they weren't topsy turvey dolls. I got my pattern from a doll maker, but my mother got hers from the newspaper and I have an ~ 12 year old newpaper pattern article and defunct address (Crafts to Sew - Scarborough Ontario) that has been tacked to my bulletin board for years.

Any help will be appreciated.

Try Keepsake quilting or Correcting Threads. I saw one in their catalog a couple of months ago.

Thanks - not quite what I was looking for. I will continue to search and if anyone else spies this thread and has an idea, let me know.

Hi

Here's a link that has a few topsy turvey dolls
http://www.clothdollsupply.com/past.html

I don't recall one exactly like that, but there might be another doll with the face, and you could combine that head, scaled up or down, with one of the tt doll patterns sold there. There are a few, but you have to search for them, they are not indexed and they are not all called topsy turvey, there is another name for them.

I had a tt doll as a child and made one for my daughter too.

Good luck!

Janice and Emmy -What wonderful sites! Thank you so much. I think the Laura Wheeler dolls are what I am looking for. On looking at these patterns and pictures I wonder why I quilt and sew as I have made a number of dolls, in fact learned to sew making my own doll clothes and love the feelings when something 3 dimensional comes out of flat paper and fabric!

A reader from one of my tip a day newsletters sent this in.

There are a lot of sites selling these patterns. Here is one,

I hope this helps you. They are rather unique looking dolls.

Thanks, Mary and Jameela:

It is interesting that this site is the same site as Janice's recommendation -http://showcase.netins.net/web/doll...ns_TTurvey.html

Thanks, Bren, I have a lot of spools that I have been saving just because I couldn't bear to throw them away.. I was going to try to remember how my DGrM used to make spool dolls for me, now I have instructions for a very cute one that will appeal to several little girls I know.. Thanks a million ! ! :bg: :bg: :bg:

Thanks from me as well Bren! Not exactly topsy turvy I was looking for but like this idea. I had lots of spools and pill bottles I put out at my last garage sale and they were grabbed up very quickly for sunday schools and play schools. However, much to the disapproval of others, I like Coats threads so do have more accumulating!

I have a topsy-turvy doll cut out and ready to sew, and bought enough fabric for 3-4 more -- and that was about 5 years ago! I don't remember why I never finished them, but thank you for the reminder -- that will be my next project!

(p.s. my pattern was in a magazine - the photocopy no longer shows the name of the magazine, date or issue )
