Hey Mary, I don't think I have EVER seen instruction on a centered zipper that made the CHORE seem so easy. I DO hate zippers and avoid them at ALL cost. I plan to try following these instructions and I bet I will be amazed.or at least I HOPE I will be.... Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the site! I do have a zipper question myself. I can sew a great zipper till I reach the zipper pull. How do you get around this without veering way off around it. I do have a method I use where I buy a too long zipper and keep the zipper pull a few inches abobe the top of the garment. I sew in the zipper, pull the zipper pull down, cut off the top of the zipper since it was too long and whip around the top of the zipper teeth. The zipper is perfect every time with this method but I would like to learn how the rest of the world can sew a pretty zipper the right way. Thanks, SewAddict |

Don't you just move the zipper pull when you get to it? That's what I have always done. Dorothy |

Those are great instructions ! I'm working on a 22" zipper as we speak, so the pictures will come in very handy ! In the past I've always ended up fudging the part where the top of the zipper meets the facing, maybe this time it'll be "professional"

I can't wait to try this out. I always have my zippers crooked and so I avoid them like the plague. As far as the zipper pull, I stop when I get close to it, make sure the needle is down in the fabric, lift up the foot, pull the zipper tab past, drop the foot, make sure the thread is taut and away I go. I did find a great way to put in seperated zippers from a 'Sewing with Nancy' book which works every time and looks great.

I saw Nancy put in a separating zipper in a jacket the other day, and it went in like a dream.. I'm going to use that method next time I have to do one.. It looked great..

I love this site for sewing techniques. It's Viking's, and it's animated. One you get to the "Sewing Room," select Sewing Techniques for a menu of techniques to watch. They demo 3 ways to do zippers.
