I guess what you are looking for is four way stretch fabric. It can be spandex, lycra or nylon.

Good question!
My dh has asked me to make him some swim trunks---anyone know what kind of water repellant type material men's swim trunks are made of?

TIA! :bluesmile

Men's swim trunks (not the tiny speedos, which are spandex bathing suit material), which either repel water or else dry really quickly, are made of polyester microfiber. Ask for brushed or sueded poly microfiber. I love the stuff. My favorite pair of pants is made with it. They're using it in a lot of surfer clothes, hats, skirts, jacket shells, and some hiking apparel too now. My local fashion fabric store, which has more selection than I've ever seen anywhere, doesn't have any of it in their outerwear section. :(

that is a great way to get to know him better.

There is a shop in our town that specializes in pagent/material for gymnists. They sell a very high grade of fabric that would work well. You probably could find a similar shop in many large cities.

Hee hee!

I am currently sewing my husband a pair of boxer shorts for Father's Day - but a Speedo *would* be more fun!

Thanks, Andrea, for the names of the swim trunk material.
