I am reading a book about women of influence. It gives life lessons from 20 well known women. Everyone from Florence Nightingale to Oprah. The very last story is about Mary Kay. She was a single mother of 3 kids.

Prior to starting her own business, (Mary Kay Cosmetics) she was National Training Director at World Gift, a direct sales company. For eleven yrs. she travelled all over the country working with salespeople from 43 states. Eventually, her boss hired a man to help her with the workload. Within months, her boss decided to create a position of National Sales Manager. He chose Mary Kay's assistant and paid him twice the salary she was paid. She went home and cried. The next day she handed in her resignation.

She began planning for her own startup. She put great emphasis on her staff.
She said family must always come before work. She treated every one like they were very important to her personally. She also read business and self improvement books constantly.

Each morning she made a list of six things she wanted to do that day. Numbering them in importance, she would scratch them off as they were accomplished. If something wasn't finished, it went on the next day's list.

This may be a book you would like to read, but if not, her drive, respect for her fellow man and ideas on business are certainly important. She ran her business by the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Sometimes it takes the unfairness of a job situation to finally decide once and for all that you are going to make a go of your own business. Tony Robbins says to live your life with passion and the unfeeling boss may be just the jolt we need to go it on our own. If it weren't for the money needed to pay the bills this move would be so much less stressful. But small bits of time every day will keep your plan in action and someday your day will come to shine! Life is just too dang short and you'll never know what could have been if you don't get moving NOW.

What's the title of book and author so I can check it out. Sounds good - I enjoy reading about women (I support women when possible especially in male dominated jobs) like car dealerships - I look for women salesperson.

Sorry Brenda, never saw your post until now. The book is titled How to Be Like Women of Influence - Life Lessons from 20 of the Greatest.

I don't want to emulate any great leader but loved the stories. They write about Eleanor Roosevelt, Oprah, Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, Anne Frank and many more. It was an excellent read. Written by Pat and Ruth Williams.
