I want to use the soft Minky fabric as a backing for a baby quilt. Does this have to be handled differently than any other fabric. I am wondering how it looks when quilted. Should I quilt the top to the batting (I am planning to use a piece of flannel) and then just tack this to the Minky? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cynret |

Minky is a very, very soft polyester fabric with a slight nap. I think it is ideal for baby things or bathrobes, but have never used it and want a little more information about using it as it is quite expensive. Cynret |

Cynret, I've not used it either but it is indeed very soft. Tagging along-hopefully someone has an answer

Isn't "minky" what Inspector Clouseau called a monkey in the Pink Panther movie ?

backed a quilt for my granddaughter with minkee and it turned out awesome. It's polyester and so soft to the touch. It's by Benartex but now Moda has a knock-off that feels great too. I treated it exactly as I would any other fabric. I did the quilting on it without a single pucker. Probably among my best work yet. It comes in lots of colors now and even some animal prints and at least one plaid that I know of. Put "minkee blankee" in a google search and you'll see lots of it. By the way, I used the smooth, not the 'dot' version. So use it as you would any other quilt back and it'll be awesome. My whole family loved the quilt, but especially the baby. Everybody wanted one of their own. I thought about taking two pieces of it, and just making a throw for the sofa -- simply quilt it and then bind it. go for it! Happy Stitchin' from sunny Arizona

The minkee fabric is so soft. Everytime I go to my favorite quilt shop, I have to stand and touch it. One of these days I am going to buy some. I have been thinking of making a winter robe out of it.

Does Minkee fabric come out of the wash soft? Do you put it in the dryer to keep it soft or just hang it up wet? |
