What is everyone doing?

I am sewing Folkwear's Missouri River Boatman's Shirt (http://www.folkwear.com/204.html) for my own dad (check out the cheesy-looking guy in the picture!) and a pair of First Choice boxers (http://www.sewbaby.com/big/patterns15_/tl-7b.html) for my husband (out of fabric that matches a fun dress I just sewed Sophie!). AND I have to make a card for my husband with some of the kids' "artwork" included. I'm a little pressed for time to get everything done on time but the hardest part is doing it SNEAKILY! :-)

I also have a sitter coming up to pick the kids up tomorrow morning for a couple hours so I can pamper my husband with breakfast in bed, etc... And lest anyone think I am trying to be "the perfect wife", this Father's Day is to make up for last year when I don't think we did much at all!

I thought fathers were supposed to spend the day with their kids.

If that's true - then why on Mother's Day do mothers expect time to themselves or time to get pampered, rather than time with THEIR kids?

My husband gets up with the kids in the morning and fixes them breakfast. He puts them to bath and bed at night. He spends almost all his time with them if he's not working. He tells me he misses having time with me alone. So. He gets to have what he wants this year! Every family is different. I think my family is unusual in the amount of time my husband takes care of our kids (for instance, he spends all day Saturday with them so I can sew).

My DH is getting 3 different types of ivy. He got a pot of it for Christmas and I have heard at least once a month how much he LOVES ivy. We also got him a glass hummingbird feeder that he liked but wouldn't buy because of the price. I made a 5 layer butter cake with Chocolate fudge frosting and potato salad for him. He gets to pick what we have for dinner and when we eat it. My girls will make or have made cards for him. One of them spent the night with a friend but she will be home right after church, I'm sure.

I think most of the time fathers want to spend Father's Day with their kids because they don't get to see them much at other times and mothers want to be pampered on their day because they traditionally do for the kids all the other days. If a dad spends lots of time with the kids and wants to be pampered on Father's day, then it is a nice present for him. My DH teaches school (and stays there to finish his daily stuff), so he doesn't spend alot of time during the school year with the girls, but since he is off during the summer (and right here underfoot all day) he gets to do more with them. That's why he allowed the youngest to spend the night with a friend-just told her to come home early.

My father is on vacation with my sister and her children-they left yesterday. I have several plants for him and will give them to him next weekend. I don't try to sew for him (or my Husband) except for loose fitting boxer type shorts to wear around the house. And I cant' get to my machine right now.

I gave my hubby a "tapas" cookbook from me and the kids. Other than that we're going to my ex-MIL for dinner (we go there just about every Sunday)

My hubby gets dinner on me at his favorite restaurant. No kids this year though. One is in New York and the other is sick.

All our kids are grown and gone and I had to work that day at 4 pm so he kind of got cheated out of Father's Day. Happily all but 1 remembered to call and one brought over a leather skull cap for him. We did go to a 'old car' show for most of the morning, then stopped at his parents for a visit, though I had a nap on the couch (accidently). The 'old car' show is a tradition for us and he really likes going so even though after an hour they all look the same to me except different colors (and I'd never admit that to his face) I just keep following along as he takes picture after picture after picture. (yes he has photo albums from each car show we go to).
