I started working on this project (http://www.future-heirlooms.com/details/487.html) , and it's the first serious applique work I've done. I'm creating several of these blocks for a swap, and I'm curious how you all do applique blocks and if you do?
I'm using freezer paper so I can iron the seams all in place with a mountain of starch and then hand sewing it (it's a great thing to do as I'm sitting there nursing the boys, because I'm going to be there for 20-30 minutes and need SOMETHING to do to keep my attention). I figured out yesterday that if I pin all the seams up (I can pin into my ironing board, straight down), first and then spray with starch, it's a lot faster than if I try and iron as I fold it up, because I have to wait for the pieces to cool down enough to touch again. That and I really want a Clover mini-iron, ooohhhh...... birthday present idea (only a month to go)
But, I'm curious, and besides which I hadn't posted in a while, and wanted to see how others are doing.

I use several different methods. For very small pieces I always use fusible. I mostly use freezer paper for the pattern, cutting it out with a 1/4" allowance, glue under, machine stitch. I enjoy hand applique but I just can't seem to find time. :bluesad: I have used the dryer sheet method also.

Hi Ticia, good to hear from you! How are the boys doing? Growing quickly I'm sure.

I usually use fusible when doing applique, Haven't tried the dryer sheet method yet altho I would think it might be easier to hand applique as the needle isn't going through the sticky stuff for the fusible. Joann had some directions around here somewhere-with one of the block of the month's I think. check the directions for her sunbonnet sue regarding using fusible for the applique.

Here's the link to the quilting lessons-it is the March block that has Sunbonnet Sue and the directions for the applique
