What did you sew while the site was down? I finished my top and have a pair of baggy shorts for grandson almost done.

I made McCall's 4099 top with the diagonal hemline. Easy and stylish for going out this summer. Here is a link to their site and the pattern.

I finished my seminole strips to put on my sweatshirt into jacket project for my Shepherds Center Class.. I could not find a good border piece in my stash and the solution fell into my hands purely by accident.. I keep a little container next to my machine for scraps and small leftovers for doll clothes and other small projects.. I finished sewing the last strip on the string I was creating and laid it aside to get another group of small strips to start on the second one and ...Voila ! ! ... a piece of red grosgrain ribbon fell out of that container onto my hand.. That was absolutely what it needed to make it perfect.. So, I went into my ribbon stash and got a spool of red grosgrain ribbon 1 inch wide and sewed down each side and then went on the backside and trimmed off the small triangles of leftovers, and I had the perfect strips for my jacket front, and enough left for the ends of the sleeves.. I'm doing a regular coverhem for the bottom.. I don't need trim going around to emphasize my already large hip and behind area..LOL I have some more strips and I am trying to figure out how to create a pocket... Any ideas ??
I missed the site so bad..Glad its ok now.. :bg: :bg: :bg:

Well lets see, I finished a sundress for my GD, 3 pair of shorts for my GS, summer pj's for DD, almost finished 3 crib sheets for shower gift, yesterday I cut out another sundress, and 4 more pair of shorts. I was just a regular sewing machine, of course I periodically checked for the site. :nc: I sure hope nobody is able to know quite how many times though...LOL :bg:

I made a shift boot cover for my dh's car, and did some alterations on a couple of shirts; he was really grateful, so it made it worthwhile :bg:
I generally HATE alterations! Soooo boring..... lol!
I'm really glad the site is back up! HOORAY!!!

...cleaned out my doll stash. Every last bit, every piece of clothing, every prop, every everything. Trimmed my doll collection a bit, sorted out a yard-sale haul, whole nine yards. Ended up with four large garbage bags full of good, but no longer wanted, stuff - my tastes have refined a bit since the Big Clean Out of 2002. Had one trashbag of unuseable junk. The very next day, Prevent Blindness called. They were doing a pick-up in the area, could I make a donation this time ? Oh, yeah !

Chucked the fifth garbage bag of pure junk, and put the other four out. I sorted stuff into bags within bags, or whoever opened 'em would be mad at me ! I can now walk on my side of the bed without stumbling over boxes and dreading the renegade Barbie spike heel. I'm back down to 80 dolls total, and can access the stuff I love much better !

Took my Beloved Hubby's gramma shopping, took Dearest Son to the library, started reading two patterns I want to work up. Repaired six doll outfits I decided to keep, picked apart three others for fabric. Sewed a Disney Princess doll jumper, a Baby Face doll blouse, and a Hi Dottie dress. Finished four I had sitting around - I'm really bad for putting off back closures like snaps and hook/eyes. Hit three yard sales, bought some nice fabric for pennies, a knick-knack sewing machine thingie, and a beach chair and papasan chair for my dolls. Also found a working guitar amp for Beloved Hubby - was he happy with me ! :bluewink:

Sure, it seems like I was busy, but I missed you all terribly ! I've already gotten a new idea and a technique clarification, so don't go away on me anytime soon, OK ? My dolls are all nervous they won't survive the next 'I'm bored' cut.

Whew! I finally finished the digitizing on my daughter's wedding dress train. What a project!!! At least the dress won't take as long. The digitizied motif takes up just shy of 4 feet running at angles down from the knees (2 feet on each side)....which I somehow managed to match PERFECTLY. At the widest point it is about 10 inches. I got all the beading done and we did a "test fit" because I couldn't stand it that I didn't have a clear idea what it would look like. At that point, my dear darling daughter decided that she wanted motifs heading up from each corner. After I was revived with smelling salts, I did manage to get those two smaller motifs done and beaded too (at least I didn't have to do any more digitizing). It is now beaded, lined and finished except for some hooks for hanging which I will do after I have the dress finished. I made the pattern alterations on her dress today and went to Sams for a break. I'll cut the "practice dress" this afternoon. It should be assembled and ready for the trial fitting by this evening.

We had a pleasant change this week as my 3 yr old dgd went to vacation Bible school for the first time...what a blast!

I finished up outfits for my GD's birthday and got some computer crafting out of the way for swaps.

Mary, I picked that pattern up awhile ago but haven't made it yet-even have fabric for it. How was it to put together?

The rest of you make me tired reading the posts! LOL

Hey maryww what happened to MaryW? Is she still around here someplace?
I was also a busy bee. I made a swimsuit for oldest daughter with a matching tote. A denim bag lined with fleece to hang on the stroller for our SeaWorld cups. Then we went to SeaWorld (a 15 minute drive).
I went to a few yard sales and found an old sewing box full of thread, needles, bobbins and a pair of old Sears electric scissors(all for $8).
I also cleaned out my book collection (non-sewing) and got them boxed up for my next yardsale. Been wokring in the yard and going for bike rides with the kids too.

I made a little pocketed remote control, etc, holder for my father in law's armchair. And I got back into a project that had been bugging me this winter. I put it aside in frustration and knocked out some other projects this spring, and now I'm back at it. I learned that if you just sit down and clean and oil your machine once in a while, sometimes things that are hard to sew with become much much easier to work with!!! It looks like most people spent that would-be-computer time getting creative!

I cleaned all the dust bunnies out of my sewing machine.
Then I made several aprons I was supposed to get done, made a denim rag quilt for a nephew who is coming to visit next week (what a mess in the washer and dryer), got half of another rag quilt done for another nephew, got the top of an I spy quilt sewn for a baby nephew, and I still need to finish cutting and sewing yet another rag quilt for yet another nephew all before next friday. :bolt:
Nothing like waiting til the last minute. :monkey:

I finished a dress I started for my granddaugther and one for me. Granddaughters pattern was Simplicity 5454 a cute jumper and mine was Simplicity 5769 a button down the front shift dress sleevless with a colar. Now I'm making a denim princess line dress Simplicity 7078. I haven't worn a dress in over 10 years this will be a big change for me. I also made a quillow for my other Granddaughter and a skirt for another granddaughter. I've been a busy little bee.

I got bad news this week. My sewing center that I go to every other week for club close the doors due to financial problems. I'm really sick over this because this place had a very good clientel. When they had a club meeting there were at least 35 women and men there every meeting or more. Everyone was so nice, it was a really good place to be. Now I will have to fine somewhere else to go but at least I made a lot of friends and we are staying in touch especially the teachers who taught, so that's one good thing.

It's good to be back Mary.

Made a bathing suit for my aunt; will see her probably Monday (in NB) for final fitting and finish. Made covers for loveseat cushions, denim with cognac color fabric for the piping. It looks really good already. All I have left is the loveseat itself. I'll tackle that when I get back. Also managed to make a Tshirt from Jalie pattern. Very nice fit and very easy.

Also made so pickled roasted red peppers with a friend. They are slightly sweet and sooooooo delicious.

finished Jamie's baptism outfit (good thing, it was on the 19th) and read the coolest sewing book, Couture The Art of Fine Sewing (palmer and pletsch series) by roberta carr, it was in the half price bin at Atlantic Fabrics, LOTS of cool techniques and ideas! The pix are very 80's styling but the rest was amazing!

Has anyone heard of a book that is for manipulating fabric? A lady who teaches sewing at our Sewing Center has the book and it has all kinds of techniques for fabric manipulating. I'd love to take a better look at this book. She ordered it from Austrailia I think.

I have been making sundresses for my granddaughters from the pattern in Sew Beautiful. I am also TRYING to do the smocked sundress, but that is another story. I did the rickrack dress from a different pattern for my youngest granddaughter. The rick rack is so cute. I bought some new crayons that you draw on your fabric with, then use a paintbrush wet with water to paint. This comes out really nice, now if my drawing was better. I think I will leave the drawing to YD and the sewing to me.

My daughter neede 6 yards to make her wedding dress. Three for the Train (plus 3 for lining) and 3 for the dress. I could only get three total from the bolt at the fabric store, but they have the same fabric without the embroidery pattern.

Well, the method was a little crude to say the least (I haven't used my new Artista Software for original designs much). My dd's wedding dress fabric is Empress Satin and has a white on white embroidered design scattered over the fabric. The design is very open and it is detached like little branches of flowers. I traced the design onto Press N Seal and then stuck the Press N seal onto the computer screen, widened my "computer pencil mark" so I could see it on both sides, and "traced" under the pattern. Then I prodceeded to duplicate the fill and stitches used in her fabric's design. I enlarged the motif and, put several of the motifs together, rotating and taking pieces from the motif to fill in...and then I (nervy me) embroidered the whole thing on the material for her train. The hoop I used it a giant Hoop it All. The hoop is 23 inches long But I needed more...so I put the design at an angle. It is repeated on both sides of the train so the overall design is probably over four feet long. Two smaller motifs are in the lower corners of the train.

Let's see while the site was down I was trying to plan an Open house for DS's graduation while I was making phone calls to try to get my job back that was taken away from me against what our union contract says should happen the problem is the union president OKed it. He & building rep were both on vacation so I didn't get very far. Also my oldest Dd had a gall bladder attack & will be having surgery the day before DH's planned 50th Bday party.
Open house went off fine only rained(sprinkled) about 1 min. Changed husbands party to Sunday July 17 instead of Sat the 16th. so I have 1 extra day to prepare. Union rep from my building will be back in town Wed. & she is going to try to help sort things out. Now I am trying to make myself some summer tops & clean up from the last party while planning the next. It is times like these I wish we had small families (not really).

I worked through alot of the week, picking up extra shifts for vacation relief. Boy, work sure messes up my sewing and knitting time!!! I sewed two baby rompers, checked the web site, a long sleeved t-shirt and cargo pants for the new baby, knit a sweater, checked the website, finished up some bibs, cleaned out my sewing room TWICE, checked the website. Bought some new storage containers and reorganized my sewing stuff AGAIN, took two days off and went down to Bellingham for a day, then on Sunday DH and I went for a 5 hour motorcycle ride around in the mountains. But I am really glad we are back up!!! I must confesss, I am a sew-aholic, I need my daily dose of sew-what's-new!
