Hi - I'm a beginner and rented a Elnita 150 to practice on. When I rented the machine the sales clerk did a high overview on how to operate (but did not include a manual)...I can't figure out how to thread the machine. When I turn it on all I hear is the fan going but the needle doesn't go up and down. She explained the Bobbin thing but also has the thread on the top of the machine too?

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated! I just bought a buch of fabric and I'm anxious to get started :)

Thanks!

If you hear a little motor or a little fan? I bet that you have the bobbin engaged. When the bobbin is engaged, most machine needles will not go up and down. You may not have done this on purpose just moving my machine to classes I usually trip the bobbin motor. To disengage your bobbin, find the place where something like a lever or paddle may be touching the bobbin spindle. That is usually on top of the machine or it may be something that you push to the hand wheel on the lower right front or side. Sometimes there is a little round wheel inside the the big hand wheel on the right side of the machine that has to be tightened to engage the needle as well.

There is so much variance in how the machines are threaded. For instance, the tension guides may be inside the machine or they may be on top or front of the machine with a spring you have to "trip" and there are all kinds of variations with that. Once you have all the thread guides on the top of the machine, most threading is done up and down (at least twice from right to left.) On some machines, particularly older ones, the threading may start at the back or on the end and in some the threading is done inside a hidden door. This is a brand I've never heard of...I'll see what I can find.

The first link shows a place to order a manual. I doubt that you'll be interested in doing that if you don't end up keeping the machine. The next link is a link for threading a Elnita (Elna?) 225. Although threading can be different from model to model it frequently is not. The next link has threading for many machines including other Elnita models. Hopefully one of these will look like yours. Let us know if it doesn't and we'll keep looking!

I think you have been cheated .. If you are renting then they should be required to furnish you a manual..Nobody can remember every step in a quick overview demo.. I would insist on a manual and extra days credit for the days I didn't have it..
