Hi I am new to this forum and to sewing in general. My wife and I are looking at buying an embroidery machine. From the research we have done it appears that for the money the singer futura ce 200 has most of the capabilities we want and a price we can live with. If we outgrow it we can upgrade later, just hate the thought of spending a few thousand on a hobby we may not be good at. Does anyone have any experience with this machine? How easy is the software to work with? The lady at our local singer shop is not a lot of help, I think she is more interested in trying to sell the higher dollar model. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thankyou Randy |

I am by no means an expert but I have been looking for an entry level machine myself. I am strongly looking at the Futura ce100. About $200 less than the ce200. The only difference is that it has less built in stitches and doesn't come with the digitizing software. The software can be purchased later if you find the need to digitize. I have heard only good things about the Futuras. Some form people here on the site and also reading reviews at sites like Joanne (http://www.joann.com/) . Gina

I have the CE-100 and so far, I love it. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a Singer but you wanta know something, my Singer machines are better built with metal parts than my Pfaff 2044 (high dollar) machine. Not that I don't like my Pfaff, I really do, but when you put them side by side with my Singer Quantum and the Futura, hey there are a lot of things on the Singers that are plastic on the Pfaff. Anyway, I taught myself to use the Futura. Some people say they're really hard to learn but I don't and didn't think so. Mine came with 2 manuals (1 for the sewing part and one for the embroidery part) the software CD and a DVD that walks you through hooping, stabilizers, etc. I also got 2 CDs with designs (one with 60 bonus designs and one with 3900 designs. My DH purchased the autopunch separately and we still only spent a little over $700 versus the $799 that the CE 200 sells for. There is also a 95 page manual on one of the CDs that you can print out. I've never printed it out, but I do keep it handy for reference, occasionally. However, I did purchase mine from my local Singer dealer who I've been doing business with for about 8-9 years now and anytime I need help, I can call or walk in there with my machine(s). If you buy from Wal-Mart, JoAnn's, on line, etc., you probably are not going to have any help with these machines and not all the Singer dealers are hip on giving out information on them as they want to sell the tols to you and not a Futura. Thank you for the responses, our local Singer dealer wants $899 for the machine so I will probably be forced to buy it elsewhere. Although I will do some checking into a ce 100 and buying the software seperately, that may wind up cheaper in the long run. since one of the justifications for buying it is making shirts with our business logo I have to have the software. One other question what fonts come with the machine and autopunch software? |

I found this Futura from one of our local dealers here in New Olreans which is really based in Baton Rouge, La but they are good to deal with. http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp07273.html I think this might be a good price, it comes with the autopunch software and a free extended warranty it says. I hope I helped. Susie I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

They are locally for me and I have met these people in person and they are very nice. Have you ever though of going to any of the conferences they have for embroidery? All Brands puts on one here in New Orleans in Nov and it's great. It's very reasonable and a lot of fun and informative. Last year they used Singer machines and this year Janome is using their machines but you can use most of the things they teach you on any machine. They also have people from each sewing machine company there to lecture about the different softwares that are on the market. I attended last year and this year I'm going to help the instructors in the classrooms with the machines. I'm glad I could help. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.
