This is my first time embroidering on fleece, and I've run into some problems. I used Aqua Magic for the bottom, did not hoop the fabric, just stuck it down, then I put wash away stabilizer on top. Problem is, the stitches on the BACK of the fleece are about 1/4" tall. They come completely off the fabric, and it's the top thread, not the bobbin thread. You can't even SEE the bobbin thread. Is there something I'm doing wrong with the fleece, or do I need to adjust my machine settings?

I'm far from being an expert, and being in France I do not know what Aqua Magic is... I use tearaway for the bottom (I hoop it), so that the stitches don't sink into the depth of the fabric.
Hope this helps :bluesmile

I have good luck using cut-away on fleece or anything that is stretchy. I use a pretty heavy cut-away and have fantastic luck. I use a wash away on top.

I don't think that it is your stabilizer. It sounds like a tension problem. I don't know why you would be having that problem. The thing I have to watch when I do fleece is making sure that I have it well stabilized...sprayed and stuck to the hooped stabilizer and well pinned or basted down...the other thing I always have to watch is that I don't stretch the fleece as I do it. Otherwise, I just don't have any problems with it. Make sure that when you thread your machine, your presser foot is UP so that the thread properly seats in the tension disks as you thread the machine. I'd just rethread everything and I'd probably even take the bobbin out and put it back in just to make sure it is in the correct direction. (I don't think the problem is in the bobbin though.)

I have used two layers of tear a way on the bottom for a fleece blanket, and for a sweatshirt I used a cut a away with washable on top. I hoop everything, I cannot bring myself to go hoopless.
Don't be so open minded your brains fall out.
