Hi, I am making different sizes of baby blankets for my daughter. Has anyone made a swaddling blanket? It has to do with some seams, I think into the blanket. I have a size of 42"x42", off store catalong. It is for newborns. Also I came a cross with sherpa fabric. When I saw it in the fabric store, it had a very hard backing. Thanks Valerie |

When My boys were babies, swaddling was a verb, and you just used any blanket you had if you needed to swaddle a fussy baby.. It just means to wrap them very snugly and as you wrap , you put their arms down by their sides and continue wrapping..This worked for me, til I found the cause of his discontent.. It was his vitamins. They caused him to have a stomachache.. I forgot them one day was how I discovered this.. I tested 2 more days before I called my pediatrician, (he had been mine as a child, also) and he blessed me out for not calling him the 1st day it happened..Said I had survived without vitamins and to throw his in the trash and try when he was older, if he did not eat a balanced diet.. Well, I never had to worry about that..Sorry, I do ramble on, don't I ??

I used flannel for swaddling my babies, whatever the width of the fabric was and made a square. for other blankets about half of the size of a crib coverlet was best for going out in the car seat / stroller

Hi, thanks for the info. I believe their is some type of sewing to the flannel to make it easier to do the swaddling. The note I have said 1,2,3, swaddle tip tag. I'll take any ideals. Valerie |

Valerie, swaddling blanket is different only in width and not in length. I am sending you a page of styles but I can assure you a regular blanket does the same thing. If you place the babies head at the point of the blanket, bring up the other point at the feet up and on the belly, then one side is folded over and then the other side is wrapped tight to the other side. http://www.colicshop.com/swaddling-blankets.shtml |

I make swaddling blankets for http://mybabyandmore.com and after trying a few different variations on the market for my very fussy son I went back to the tried and true, a 45" square blanket folded into a triangle. Put the baby so his head is in the middle of the long side and his feet are at the point. fold one side over the bottom up and the other side around and tuck into itself. All the others I tried were either too difficult for a sleep deprived mommy or he outgrew too fast (he didn't like his knees bent as he was a frank breech and his legs were straight in the womb) plus since it is just a big square, it can be used for so many other things later once the baby is past swaddling. (I used a few of his old blankets for baby clothes for his sister, they were still in good shape so why waste them? Mia |

I was taught to use a receiving blanket to swaddle with my kids. That was about the only thing the hospital ever showed me. I was not a well-trained mother...it's a wonder that any of us made it!

I just made a stack of these for my daughter for granddaughter. Just a 45" square of flannel with rolled hems. The $5 yard flannel made lusher blankets, but the cheap $2.87 yard flannel from Walmart made thinner ones that swaddled but were not so hot for summer. AngieM2 |

I think a swaddling and receiving blanket are the same thing, called different in different regions. Same thing I used to... altho, I do not remember the hospital showing me much of anything either...lol thank goodness for dear old mom and lots of baby sitting as a teen Our blankets were just flannel rectangles too.. no fancy stitching, the skill was in the wrap. Don't be so open minded your brains fall out.

It depends on the size of the receiving blanket, all of the ones I was given were smaller, maybe a square yard, but probably not even that, I think two feet square. But, I was given two larger blankets that I would estimate to be the 42" square, and those were great for swaddling the twins once they got a little bit bigger. After a few weeks the little receiving blankets didn't work because they could kick them off. Oh, and looking at the website the "123 tag" looks like it's just a clothing tag that has the instructions for how to swaddle, so I don't think that's neccesary. Just a great big square of cloth. Hi, do you really feel that the best swaddling blanket is from the Miracle Blanket? I read a lot of the comments. Which really was all praises. I hate have to paid $26.95 for 45" square flannel blanket. Valerie |

Somebody is surely bilking the public, if they are charging that kind of money to show you how to swaddle a baby.. You can do it with a towel if you have to.. Any blanket or quilt will do. Or any other fabric for that matter.. Don't waste money , if you don't know how , send me a PM with your e-mail and I will describe it.. and I'll throw in how to make a "Lib's Bib" for free...LOL

Actually, Miracle Blankets rock! It was the only way my DD would sleep. Easy as pie to make but didn't know dimensions, etc. They are worth the money. One thing I know they are cut on the actual bias so take more fabric. babyandbeyondboutique.com

It started as a joke.. I made so many bibs from fingertip towels for baby gifts at work , someone started saying I had a business, "Libs Bibs".. and it stuck.. And when the decorative ones got so inexpensive, my business really took off, as far as sales go, specially around Christmas time.. Now , I make more for charity and my church than individuals. (not as much contact since my retirement)
