Hi, I am planning on making some bibs for my grandson. Can anyone tell me what kind of fabrics I should use & any bib patterns you like? Thanks Valerie

I got some great bib patterns off the net for free. I have been making mine with leftover flannel or cotton fronts and flannel or terry cloth backing or even light waterproof outerwear fabric, sometimes I also put a thin layer of quilt batting. I had started using ties at the back and have now changed them to either snaps or velcro. I have also used ribbing as per someones great suggestions on this site, these ones you just pull over the little ones head. You can get really creative with them, I have some that now look like little shirts with collars and buttons, and lace trim as well. My daughter requested some older toddler ones with sleeves, found another free pattern on the net for that as well. I also went to the Salvation Army store and picked up two old bibs for 25cents and used them as patterns. Some I have enclosed with binding around the edges.

I make bibs out of fingertip towels, cut hole for head about 5 1/2 inches diameter and put ribbing around that. easy on, easy off & dump in the washer. I've also cut down kitchen towels and even napkins to approx the same size fingertip towels are and done them that way.

At least two good patterns for you, here:
Home Sewing Association Baby Patterns (http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/baby.html)
I'm planning on making Bib w/ Sleeves, really soon. I've never done one before, so the first will just be with scraps from the closet.

I just traced off some old bibs for a pattern and serge two layers of flannel together and use velcro for a closure, great use for flannel scraps from the older kids pj's, this is also where I got most of my fabric for my receiving blankets, hence baby boy has some really nice barbie, dinosaur and skate boarder dude receiving blankies! :nah:
