Would a fat quarter be enough to make a skull cap for an adult male??

I don't have a clue if this pic will work or not, but here's a pic of a skull cap for riding.

My kids call those do rags or doo rags...I dunno how you spell it. Anyway, I don't think that will be quite enough. I would expect you to need at least 5/8 or 3/4 of a yard...but that is just an educated guess.

I have a few of those, but mine tie in the back so I can stick my hair up in them and then tie them tight. I agree I think I used more than a fat quater.

yep..with the name Bridesmom, you should have said what kinda 'skull cap' you were looking for...do rags need more yardage...I'd get at least one yard to make sure you have enough to tie, depending on how much he wants the back to hang.

I actually found a pattern on the internet, the longer tailed one calls for 1/2 yard. I was asking cause I found the greatest fabric called 'frogs on hogs' and I'd love to make a doo-rag for the DH. She was offering fat quarters, so I may just try to lay the pattern out on a fat quarter I have and see if I can get it out or not. Oh, and my DH informed me last night that a doo-rag is what you wear under your motorcycle helmet, with the tail, and a skull cap is the little cap he wears under his welding helmet. Now I am  informed!~!~

Could you please post the link for the pattern? I tried googling for one without any good result. Thanks!

I always thought it was dew-rag. You know to soak up the dew(sweat).
I am also interested in this pattern link if you wouldn't mind sharing it.

The nurses caps that they wear for surgery take about 5/8 of a yard. I know they are different than the skull caps but it gives a general idea.
I wore a skull cap to keep my hair under my helmet. If I didn't I would have such tangles that I could spend hours combing them and still have a true mess. I like the ones that tied in the back, for when we would go into states that didn't have a helmet law I just wore them. I felt they were more secure than the ones that just slip on my head.
