Hello!
I have a question about widening the pant legs on a pattern. Could I just add on 1 inch or so to the outside of the legs, or do I need to do something different? These are just little girls' elastic waist pants, so they aren't anything complicated. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!

I'd just add it at the side -- but remember if you add an inch you are adding it four times -- front and back on each side. That's four inches around the top. You might want to start with a half inch at the top and taper to a little more along the legs -- unless you need four inches at the top, of course.

You could try adding the width from the knee area on down. Just add a little (about 1/4" to the width if you cut on the fold). When you cut the material, cut it a little wider then you can always sew it to fit.

If it is just to the leg, I usually add about 1/4 to the inside and 3/4 of the amount to the outside. If you are just wanting to add flare to the legs, I would start where the pants flare the most, at the hips (and just after the crotch inside) and taper from there, unless you need the fullness at the hips, then I would start as high as I need. If you start too early or too dramatic, you'll get a pooch. If you try on your pants and have an odd fullness somewhere, just pin and sew the difference. If the fullness is too much or too early in near the hips it really shows but it is very easy to alter.
