is headed our way....because of the water in the Atlantic being too warm.
I have a solution...ice cubes...they can shoot a comet, they can shoot ice cubes into a hurricane to make it stop...what ya think ??? :bolt:

Hold good thoughts our house's stay together and no one gets hurt !
I'm stayin...(I'm NOT carting 4 ferrets with all their stuff around....we've been fine here for 10 yrs...I think they will be too..)

I'll be here off and on, as electricity permits...everyone take care !

Kath

Hold on Kath, I hope he peaks out in the gulf and comes in as a lamb instead of the lion he is now. I don't have any animals but I have lots of grandkids so we go. The problem is we have in water topping the levee's (Dikes) once that happens it gets in and can't get out fast enough and we are flooded for weeks. It happened in 1965 and now they are saying our marsh which helps protect us from storms in erroding from a ship channel they dug in the 60's or 50's God Bless all of you out there in it's path. I'll keep in touch as long as I can. We will probably leave if we are leaving tomorrow at noon. hugs Susie

Chrys, Looks like it is coming your way after all. I wish this thing would disapate before it hits anyone. If you have to go anywhere I have reservations in Monroe, La We are going to cancel them if it goes your way but I will post here when I cancel if you need a room I'll PM you with the # for the motel. My DIL has been there and says it's suppose to be clean but really cheap. What I just went through with no A\C for two days I'll sleep in the car as long as it's got air. The reality of it all is if one comes here that strong I will be homeless along with everyone in our town. I'm not ready for that for sure.

Ole Fidel is getting hit right in the heart of Havanna. Our weather people locally is saying it may go east of Pensecola. Tallahasse area will get it rather than Pensecola. I'm cooking everything I can in the freezer right now so if I do have to go I can take it in ice chest and eat as long as I have a barbecue pit to warm it on. Taking my sewing machines, computers and Ahhhh the Pit. I can eat and sew.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Thanks Beach and Hogmami, Gulfport is a little more in the path then we are right now but as I said before they are saying Florida, poor things, again. My hubby works out of Biloxi which is east of Gulfport. At least that is where his shop is.................. all the work he does is mostly here in New Orleans.

Beach, I go no where without thinking about what I'm going to feed everyone. With this crew that is going with us I will need plenty of cash also to feed them and bed them down. ROFL If I cancel I will still have to pay for tomorrow's room because I booked it for Saturday but had to cancel 24 hours in advance without charge. Now I have to pay for all those rooms one night. But I'd rather do that then do like we did last year and had no room and no where to go but rode around for two days and then had to come back home. Almost had a baby delivered in my truck.

Susie, know what you mean. We,ve done the same thing many times. Getting rooms, food & whatever for the gang. It's better to reserve rooms & know you have a place to stay & not need them than go & find none. I never wanted to leave any behind no matter that they were grown & have to know my grand babies are safe. One year we left out with some & others wouldn't go.I couln't force grown adults in the cars. I worried myself silly the whole time. When we returned they said never again would they not leave out. That was with Andrew & we only got the tail end of that here in Naples. Believe me it's money well spent just for the peace of mind. We've been getting rain, thunder & awhile ago strong winds but it's from what is ahead of the hurricane. We have all the outdoor stuff put up & hurricane shutters ready to put up if need be. At this point they don't think we'll get a bad hit. I sure feel for everyone even close to it's path.

Well, MIL, looks like we may be safe (will feel better tomorrow, huh?) but you are lower and have more of a tendency to flood..I'm half way between New Orleans and Baton Rouge...Kath, where in the panhandle are you?? Bama, too?? Did Ivan get you, also??Ds, dil and three little ones(youngest is 5wks) live in Panama City...haven't evacuated..makes me nervous for them... And Naples should get some nasty east side winds and weather...Prayers that it peters out!!! Paula

Ninifav, Yes we were lucky this time maybe. Bob Breck said tonight that it has one chance to come more west but he'll know better in the morning if it will do that. Where are you in Destrahan? LaPlace? The farther west the better. It's going to be gridlocked if they tell us to leave after 12 noon. I was thinking maybe this new traffic flow thing the Gov. implimented will make it better this time but you know these people in S. La. they do everything just the opposite of what they are suppose to do. I'm not looking forward to leaving here at all but looking less forward to sitting in a car for 24 hours stuck in traffic somewhere with 7 grandkids and all their parents. :bluewink:

Stay safe Nini, this early to have this many storms is not good.

Did you happen to see pictures of the Fla Marlins game on Friday night? The Pitcher and Batter could not even stand on the mounds because of the winds coming in ahead of the Dennis. Pop Fly balls turned into Home Runs because of the winds!!!! I think they said that they clocked some of the winds on the field at 30+ mph!!!!!!

Oh yeah, The Cubs went on to win the game.

ninivav,
I'm in north central AL. We won't get it like the gulf coast, but the weather man is saying we'll get alot of rain and some wind. I just hope no tornados form.
We got alot of rain and high winds from the storms last year. I guess it will depend which way Dennis the Menace turns. I hope we won't get the winds coming from the south.

My sister has been in Fort Walton beach. She left to come back home early this morning.

Thanks Margot, They now are telling us to put our hurricane shutters on as we're to get 50 mile an hour winds soon. We've had lots of winds higher than that over night & today. These hurricane scares are just the price we pay for living in paradise. We do take them serious. I have to joke to keep my sanity or at least what I have left of it. Electric goes on & off here so can't sew. I'm drawing out a pattern for a victorian puzzle ball pin cushion & can cut out the fabric at least. Hope I can figure out how it goes together as I lost the pattern & directions. My aunt used to make them. They are 3 sided melon pieces sewn together & stuffed & then sewn at each end of the points & added together to form a ball. Kids love to play with them also. Each point has a covered button on it also.

I live about 25 mi N of Fort Walton Beach...35 mi NE of Pensacola.
Almost all of our neighbors evacuated (the military HAS to or get article 15's written up, article 15 is disobeying a direct order)...so we have keys and mail for all our neighbors....the windows are boarded. We have a brand new generator, food, water and litter for my ferrets...we're good to go...

I slept through Ivan last year..this one is gonna hit about 4,5,6 pm, there abouts....I'm not much of an alarmist....not much bothers me...
Yesterday I was stung 3 times on my hand, (trying to get one of my lanterns unplugged I didn't know there was a wasp in there). I'm allergic..I took 4 benadryl and went to bed...(the hospitals were closed for the storm...) I'm fine....My husband goes berserk, I just tell him to shut up and take a breath.
NOTHING is that important, that you have to have a fit over...

Chrys, You keep safe. 25 miles inland is not safe enough for those winds they are predicting you to get. I know you weathered the last one but they are telling us here that this one is going to be a 4 by the time it gets to you. The generators are wonderful only thing the one we had wasn't strong enongh to run our A\C and I like to died with the heat. We have a commercial ice maker and I had ice all the way up to the end almost and I had running water to soak my big butt clothes and all to keep cool. I will be praying for you all on that side.

Beach, You keep your head down too. Those tornado's that come with these things are the things you have to watch for. When you can let us know how you gals are. My prayers are coming at ya. Hugs to you all. Susie

M-I-L, I live in Lutcher, just off of Airline Hwy...Youngest son, gf, her little boy decided to leave to go west yesterday at 5:00p.m....A 45-minute drive took him over two hours to get out of Baton Rouge...Can you imagine how awful it will be if they call for a mandatory evacuation...If this sucker takes a nasty turn to the west, give me a quick e-m...if I can get it, you are welcome to stay with us...you will never get past Baton Rouge!!!
Thinking of you Chrys, beachgirl, Naples..and all of you in the path...Still don't trust the predictions...sometimes, these storms have a mind of their own...

That is so sweet of you to offer Ninifav. I'm scared too. This things is looking like it's coming straight for us. They keep saying it's moving to the NW and it is 400 miles to the SE of us, well I think if it's moving NW and we are SE that's a straight line to me, is it to you? My husband kept telling me it's not coming here Bob Breck and all the weather men keep saying it's going to Pensicola but then when he heard how it was moving and where it was from us he looked at me and said "That's US!!!" I told him Yeah that's what I've been telling you all day...........Duhhhhh ROFL. Did your kids get where they were going yesterday. We are going to Bastrop up north of Monroe if we leave and they say the contraflow will be monitored better this time they're going to not let any traffic on I-12 going West...... so they won't have a bottleneck in Baton Rouge like last time. We'll have to wait and see. The thing is it's only July. We normally don't have to worry about these kinds of storms until Sept and on. :bluesad: I wish it were Thanksgiving, it would be over with. ROFL. Hugs all

One saving grace about all this bad weather, you don't have to listen to that bad music you where telling us about!!! Are you still having problems with it?
Maybe you will get lucky and they will get blown away for good.

Beach glad to see you made out safe. Anyone heard from Chrys? They are saying it wasn't as bad as the last storm maybe it will just be a lot of trash to be picked up and not that much damage. I sure hope so. The weather station is saying no one was killed so that's good news. Now we have another one out there coming in TS#5 :bluesad:

Susie, Are we all ready to move someplace else ? I knew we'd have more coming but so soon? I'm already tired of moving outdoor furniture & statues in & out. We did buy a battery operated TV today when electric goes out. Think we'll get a whole house generator when the supplies get back in. I'm like you, It gets too hot without the ac. Don't know if I'm spoiled or getting older. Mind you I did NOT say old. LOL. Have an idea, sell our homes & find a large cave to move into. The darn thing would most likely flood though. Some of the new homes here are bulding a hurricane proof room in their house. Not a bad idea. Wonder what you do with it the rest of the time ? Hey, put the rowdy kids in there. Give the Moms' & gm a break.

Phewww I don't want to go threw that again no air for two days. It's not that we are spoiled, it's the fact that our bodies aren't use to the heat anymore. My hubby works in the heat all the time and he didn't have as much trouble with the heat as I did. When I was a kid we use to sleep with the windows open and the attic fans going and we didn't have air conditioning. The heat never bothered us or our parents. Now if I get in the car and the windows are rolled up and it's hot I have to get out wait for the ac to kick in and cool it off before I can get going or I can't breathe. When I was a kid we didn't have ac in the car either. It's what our bodies are use to. People come here all the time from elsewhere and say they can't breathe with the humidity, it's all what you're use to I guess.

Anyway, I'm happy you are okay, I left all the things put up for Dennis after Cindy. I guess we'll wait and see if # 5 gets here too. I'm not fond of putting things up either. I'd rather be sewing. :bolt:

I'm here....we're fine...a big blow and not much rain...lost some leaves off the tress, but nothing else.
The power, gas, cable and water stayed on...we were L U C K Y !!!!!!!
All my neighbors fared the same....they're all slowly returning...
Thanks for all the good wishes..I KNOW they helped !!!

and yes my mystery stereo is STILL on..it was off for the hurricane yesterday, but back on about 8 am, as usual...it's on now as a matter of fact.
I think I might know where it's comming from though..I have it narrowed down a bit more...wish me luck on catching'em... !

Yesterday I was stung 3 times on my hand, (trying to get one of my lanterns unplugged I didn't know there was a wasp in there). ......

Hey Chrys, The same day I was putting away lawn chairs and things outside and also got stung THREE times on my hand by a red wasp. Several flew out from under the deck and chased me back into the house. :bolt: I'm not allergic, but swell pretty bad. I could barely get my rings off when I got inside.

We got alot of rain and some wind, but nothing like what they had predicted. Just alot of leaves and twigs everywhere.

Actually no...Mikey is deaf....the girls don't care and Sam is only afraid of thunder (which is weird because we've never seen a ferret afraid of thunder.) Bob was afraid of the vacuum. Girl was afraid of sizzling. Scooter was afraid of eagles screaming on t.v....our first ferret Monster didn't care about noises. But he hated moving. EVERY TIME (and we moved 5 times while he was alive) he saw moving boxes in the house, he'd get mad and when he saw moving men, he'd try to attack them. (THAT was weird for a ferret who loved people, he hated moving men). I didn't like moving much either..but the military is like that...

Mary, smart dog you have there -- little kids can be as dangerous and lethal as big trucks! I have the same fears. LOL Seriously, though, there's not too many things that our little 4 legged girl is afraid of but thunder and lightning scare the crap out of her. If it's at night, we have to get her up close to us and cover her up and if it's during the day and we're home, we have to pick her up and hold her. Her heart races and she trembles all over when we have thunder and lightning storms.
