:bang: I am now making the third pair of shorts this summer for my granddaughter. Each time I cut the pattern to measurements (printed pattern), I find when I go to sew them they are all off. One side of the leg longer than the other, the back much longer than the front, etc. I am using either Simplicity, McCalls or Butterick with these patterns and have found the same with all, including collars and necklines. No adjustments have been made to the original pattern.

Hi Marlyn,
I'm finding this a lot of the time as well especially with children's patterns. I've had the most problems with Butterick. Very frustrating. Enjoy the day.

I've had it happen as well, I just thought it was me because I'm a new sewer and messed it up somehow.

I would report all these problems back to the company - most companies even have an email address. If you don't complain, it won't get resolved!!!

One side of the leg longer than the other, the back much longer than the front,
Are you sure they're errors? I was just working on a pants pattern yesterday, and noting how the lengths don't match up along the side seam. It was not a mistake at all in this case. Try sewing from the bottom to the top, and when you get to the hip area, place the loose ends together, even if one layer is longer (I'm guessing it'll be the back panel). Then ease the extra length in. This provides fullness for the rear.

Yip, like Andreasews said, when it is in the backpattern it is drawn like that on purpose. Fur fullness of the back, and or , (and that depends of the child) for space for a diaper.
With kind regards,

Collars and necklines often don't seem to fit until you clip them too. If it was just one pattern one time it might be a misprint but if it is frequent I think maybe it is the ease in the pattern. There are several ways to handle it but you must leave it in for the garment to fit comfortably -- although some patterns may have a little more than you need.

 Thank you for your comments, but this pattern is for a young girl in a size 12 .. I don't think they need space for a diaper. As I am quite an experienced sewer, having been at it for well over 50 years, I don't recall having these problems before.

I will also agree with the collars and the trimming, and easing, etc, but I have sometimes had one collar length longer than the other from the center to the front. I have compared the pattern pieces and there is a problem there, but not always.

As I mentioned I am finding the shorts and pants in particular the ones that I am finding a rough time with.

hoi Marlyn,

Nah, so long as you I wont get yet. I am only sitting for about 36 years at the sewing machine.
It was a posibility, but with size 12 it is a highly probability that the over length was not made by purpose, but indeed a very grave mistake of the company.
With kind regards,
François
