Do you have any obsessive-compulsive behavior? Come on now I do. We all do have at least one. So lets hear about yours. Some of mine: Light bulbs. If one burns out I have to replace it immediately. When I use the bathroom (espically public) I have to have towels to open the door to get out after I have washed my hands. I place them on the handle of the door to open it, then throw out the towel. I always carry clorax wipes in my purse in case of the air dry system. Pin cushions-I have certain ones for certain pins. My thread, goes into certain boxes, that I know what should be in there. Do not put my 100% cotton thread in with my poly/cotton thread. I know I have more but what about you? Summer Summer

I'm naturally pretty loose. So bad, in fact, that I you might call me scattered. As a result I tend to force certain habits to keep my life in order. I keep a tight organizer for work since I work for myself and have to self motivate. I usually put things away as soon as I finish with them so I know where things are when I want them again. It's a "trick" I learned as a child. I've tried for nearly 30 years to teach it to my husband who leaves things all over the house and is always running around looking for something and accusing me of hiding it. He just won't learn, so sometimes I do hide things (put them away). I also get insecure about things I compulsively do. I am always reading one book and I always have the one I am reading next picked out and sitting on the shelf. The same with sewing. The next project is picked out, prewashed and sitting on the shelves with any notions I will need all ready to go. Dorothy |

I only have one that I know of and it's an odd one! I am very laid back with my housekeeping, I hate cleaning and it almost always shows around here. I am a disaster in the sewing room, I keep going from one project to another until I run out of room and HAVE to clean so I have space but...... un-paired socks drive me nuts! For me they have to go in the hamper as a pair, and the washer and they better come out of the dryer with a partner too. But having a DH and DD who don't care about 'pairs' keeps me on the go. My DD even wears odd socks as a pair. (I am sure just to push me over the edge) I have a basket of "divorced socks" or 'socks without partners' as they are know here that is years old, just waiting and hoping that it's long lost partner might show up. I know... it's strange. :(

I was the same way with socks -- I had some from my kids -- the youngest has been out of the house for 7 years. Finally I tossed them and felt a whole lot better. Now I keep track of my own and throw my husbands on his shelf to deal with himself. Dorothy |

If I have under 12 rolls of toilet paper in the house, I panic. I don't know why that is such a problem. I have never been without toilet paper in my life, but it brothers me.

My daughter claims I'm more "anal" than obsessive/compulsive. I dont' let anyone touch my desk-it's organzied chaos & I know where things are. My boss will tell you I'm obsessive about people doing their jobs and doing them right so that when I have to cover I know what the heck is going on! I am a person for the most part that believes things have a "place" and once in awhile I'll try leaving something lying around but within 10 minutes I have to put it where it belongs or go nuts! My daughter is the one though who has to clean the house on Saturday, do the laundry on a certain day and put dishes in the dishwasher immediately! LOL

The only thing I can think of that I obbsess over ishaving enough food at parties.I always make wayyyy too much & we have leftovers for a week. Then the dog gets them. I'm sure my husband & kids could come up with some that I don't even realize I am doing.

My only compulsion is to re-arrange ALL my dragons when I get a new one. (hopefully that will stop soon, since I've been telling people I DON'T collect them anymore and DON'T want any, but I've been doing that for 3 yrs now, wanna bet I get a few for my birthday and christmas this year ) All dragons MUST have a place and it must be PLACED properly. They also get cleaned twice a year (usually in Jan and July, soap, water, whatever will work to clean them, not just dust them off). (I've stored 2/3rds of'em in boxes in the garage....I was feeling hemmed in by all the dragons in the house. ( I have hundreds...from 1" tall to 3 feet long) Anything else in my life, fits or it doesn't...I'm not compulsive about anything else. Kath Chrys

Chrys, I collect angels and fae's. Like you I received lots of them from people as presents. Each was well meaning and I adored them, but I had certain ones that were special. I would place them where ever I could find room, re-arrange them. The ones in my bedroom were the special ones to watch over me. The ones at my doors were to watch over the house. These were all handpicked by me. After many years my friends and family learned not to buy these for every little event. Once in a while one of my children will give me one and say something like, mom it spoke to me. I know what that means and it becomes special. I have never stored mine in boxes, but we have basements in Michigan and many have made their way down there. Summer Summer

I also open public restroom doors with a paper towel on the way out. You never know who might have touched it and not washed their hands. I carry hand sanitizer in the car and make the kids use it when we leave a store. Another thing I do is when we're leaving the house, I have to be the last one out the door. I always check to make sure no one left anything on like the iron, coffee pot, ect. It drives my daughter crazy. My son totally understands. He has OCD. It also drives me crazy when people leave things plugged in. When I go to my mother's house I always unplug her curling iron and hair dryer. She always says, "but they're turned off" When I was a child, my sister almost caught our house on fire while we were at church because she left the curling iron on. When we got home I smelled smoke and found a towel smoldering in her room. |

Bama - I laughed about the store doors. I went to lunch today with a friend who went mattress shopping with another woman yesterday and then went out to lunch. Mine friend commented on how the other woman had bounced and tried all sorts of mattresses that had pillows on them and then cleaned all restaurant washroom and store handles or used her hips when opening store doors! She never considered how many heads had been on the pillows. My friend was scratching her head as she told the story. Dorothy - ditto the books. If I finish one at 2 am I get up and read at least 2 pages of the next one. I used to be a 'put awayer' but age has made me into a walking disaster. I do tend to be a tidier vs a cleaner. I excuse myself by saying I used to 'keep house' for my mother and husband, neither of whom are around any more and later as a role model for my children. It worked to the point my daughter complains when she visits, but I do notice she doesn't volunteer to clean! I fear my son's long term relationship may break up d/t his partner's lack of any form of tidiness or cleaning - you have to see it to believe it! Hogmami - My limit is 8 rolls and 4 when there is terrible weather to drive out in! I probably have a lot of compulsions I refuse to recognize but one I do have one that drives me crazy. I have to have my clothes for the next day laid out before I go to sleep regardless of what is planned. My hook for next day clothes broke last week and I nearly broke out in a rash until I bought another one. If I forget to lay out clothes I sometimes find myself still in my nighty at supper time wondering what I will put on that day. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

Sancin, You know what? I read your post and realized that I would have thought about how many heads had touched those pillows before I put my head on them. I also use my hips or elbows to push open doors. Never my hands if I can help it. Thanks goodness for automatic doors. And I loved it when dd's school built their new bathrooms with the u-shaped entrances with NO doors. No wonder I drive dd crazy with things like that. Something else that bothers me is buffet style restaurants. Have you ever sat and watched people get their food from the food bars? So many people have touched those spoons. And what I've seen kids do. I guess I'm just weird about germs. |

I work in a hospital lab, I am obsessive about washing my hands all the time, with good reason. My other obsessive thing is almost too embarrassing to write - here goes - I can't stand having those black hairs growing on my chin or neck so I have to pluck them. Drives my hubby crazy if I notice one and can't get to the tweezers, I pick at it continually trying to pluck it out with my fingernails. - There - I've said it. Now - to post it.....

It makes me crazy when people at work take the last cup of coffee without making more, they take the last cup (heaven forbid they have to bend over and grab a new stack of cups in the drawer 4" down from where they're standing, guess they're afraid of getting whiplash ), or throw the rest of their soup in the sink clogging the drain.... |
