I bought a pure wool blanket at a Goodwill to put on my ironing board, under the cover. Works great. Decided to shrink the living daylights out of the rest and make a vest. Was hoping to achieve the look of boiled wool, not knowing at the time that "boiled" wool is usually made from knitted stuff and "felted" is from woven. I have washed in hot water, rinsed in cold and dried on hot several times and the fabric is now much shrunken and thickened (in other words, it is "felted") but there remains a considerable nap, which sheds. Any ideas on how to get rid of the nap? Would one of those little sweater shavers meant for removing pills work? Has anybody else done this? |

I have felted and fulled wool. But never a wool blanket. I would try a lint brush that you use on a suit. Other than that, you could try the shaver, but I'm not sure that it would solve the problem. It could also depend on what type of wool the blanket was made of. I'm finding that certain sheep's wool is better for felting and others are better for spinning into yarn.
