I am looking for a tutorial on making gussetted pockets. You know, the kind on cargo pants with a side gusset and flap. My one and only Ottobre magazine (4/2004) had a tutorial but my mom has it!

Any help is appreciated!

I had a gal from my Ottobre Yahoo group send me the missing article. So - no need to help unless you have a fabulous pocket method to share!

I just made a pair of pants from a pattern I've had for a while with gusseted pockets that are half way down the leg, they were really easy to do, but I'd never be able to explain it. I'll look up the pattern and pm you with the pattern, I may be able to scan it in and send it if you'd like.

bridesmom - that would be fabulous!

I ended up making my own gusseted pocket by making the pocket piece super wide and "accordion-pleating" the edges. Edge-stitch, then sew the pocket on upside down, RS-together, flipping up, and sewing down the sides. It looks OK - but I could use a real pattern! So PM away, I say!

Or - email me. I am kelly AT hogaboom DOT org.

Thank you!

I've seen them sewn so that the flange around the edge is attached to the pocket and then topstitched on like a patch pocket with very narrow seaming. I've also seen them sewn from the inside around but I don't think I could ever explain how to do it....it is just one of those things I know how to do.
