I'm new to the board and just wanted to say hi. Also I wanted to ask a question. What do you all do to keep your pattern peices together? I use plastic bags but it gets to be too much when you have a whole bunch. I tend to cut out alot of patterns at once so I have a bunch of projects on the go.. any suggestion to make it a little neater and not so bulky?

Hi Foxyshorty, Welcome to Sew What's News. You will find alot of helpful people here with alot of good ideas. When I am done with my patterns I refold them back into the package they came in. If I am working on a couple of project at once and I may need the pattern piece I use the ziploc bags till the project is done. I keep all my patterns in either a file cabinet or a box with dividers in it. I have tons of patterns and the bulk of them can become overwhelming. I like to put them back in the original envelope. Because I draw my patterns on special paper, I roll them up and store them in cylinders.
With kind regards,

It used to be a pain sorting all the pattern pieces out after just stuffing them back in the envelope. And the paper envelopes would get all torn up too. Now I put each garment of a pattern -- the top, the pants, the jacket -- in a separate little sandwich size plastic bag and when I am finished with it I put the bag in the envelope. I don't have to sort through everything in the envelope to get the facing for a shirt and I'm not in and out of the envelopes a lot so they last longer. I keep them in the file drawers of a desk. They fit lined up on their sides so I can kind of thumb through them for what I want. Here's another hint -- when you fold the used pieces, fold them so the identifying number and description (5 SHIRT BACK) is out so it is easy to see what you have. Dorothy |
