Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a sewing book that would explain repairs & alterations. Something I could use for a reference manual. Does anyone have any titles they could suggest? Thanks very much.

If you are looking for clothing alterations, Fast Fit by Sandra Betzina.

For quick alterations and repairs of 'ready-to-wear' I really like ALTERING WOMEN'S READY-TO-WEAR by Mary A. Roehr. It's simple to read, the drawings make sense and her index is user friendly. Sandra's book FAST FIT is great before you begin sewing with a pattern but for existing clothing Mary's book is my favorite. I have been very surprised to find what I considered to be off the wall questions in her book. I think I found it on a website for sewing supplies but Amazon probably has it too.

I too have found Mary Roehr's book extremely helpful. I also have copies of her other two books, "Altering Men's Ready to Wear" and "Sewing as a Home Based Business", which have been invaluable. The Sewing Business book is packed with good information regarding pricing etc. I find I refer to Sandra Betzina's book "Fabric Savy" to help determine how I should handle different fabrics as well. I have a collection of Threads Magazines that help deal with things like hemming leather. You can download an Index from the Threads website in order to locate specific information.

Vogue Sewing has a lot of alteration diagrams and explanations. I got mine off ebay last year for $1.99 including S/H!
