Who is sewing for back to school? Not me. My grandsons want nothing to do with clothes. They really don't care.

Our kids have to wear uniforms here so I can't make clothes for them but I have my hands full hemming slacks and shorts for them to wear. All my grands are shorties. I've had to cut off as much as 7 inches off the bottom of some of them.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I only have one grandson in school at the moment and he prefers store bought for what he wears to school. He does love the costumes and pj's I make him though. LOL Can't wait until my dgd gets into school-I'm hoping she'll enjoy the clothes I can make her for back to school!

I have one GD starting first grade. I have made her some skorts. She isn't into dresses for school (I can't blame her), but likes skorts and skirts. She picks out a top she "must have" then I make a matching skort/skirt. Works out pretty well I think. If she has to wear pants she likes her jeans. I will be making her a winter jacket out of fake fur that she saw at the store.

ME! ME! ME!- lol In fact, I have sewn/ or am in the process of sewing all of my youngest 2 dds' clothes for school this year. Here is an example of what they wore today(school started yesterday): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/PrincessJenny/cutiepie2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/PrincessJenny/cutiepie3.jpg I have to say sewing their school clothes has been so rewarding. I love how excited they get when a garment is done, and I love watching them run to their closet in the morning to pick out exactly what they want to wear. And it has saved me mucho dinero $$$. |

thinking of a fall jacket for my girl. I have an adorable cotton print with handbags and shoes all over it that'll make a good lining if I can find the right fabric for a shell. OK, need help w/ back to school mending Q: I was in a time crunch w/ my 3 y.o. (it's always that way when shopping right?), and I bought some size 4Slim jeans, which I know I'll need to hem. Now that she's in bed and I can think clearly for once, I wonder, should I have gone over to the 3T's afterall?? Maybe they could be the regular cut and I could skip the hems! Andrea

My girlies are too big for school! I am mending a blazer for a friends son who is starting at a nw school this Septemeber - that is about it - they have been in uniform since they were 5....kind of hard to do the type of "back to school sewing" you ladies are talking about.

I don't have any grandchildren old enough for school yet, but I am going to make a purple corduroy coat with a black gecko lining that I am going to quilt, with pants to match for amy almost 3 yr old granddaughter. Course I need to get going on it, her birthday is in three weeks and I'm still making baby stuff for the baby due on the 28th of this month.

My 6 year old wants to learn to sew, soooo we are starting a simple cotton jumper for her to wear to school, she pinned her pattern today before she got "tired"

BTS= Back to School, I think Carol, that outfit is Adorable---with a capital "A" Now do you use RTW overalls as a foundation for the applique, then add an inlay to the bib part? They are super cute!!!! |

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, BTS is back to school. I sell my items on ebay and use the lingo, lol. I start with a pair of plain o'alls and remove the pocket. Then add fabric to the bib and applique patterns on the legs, etc. I think of the overall as an artist would use a canvas and go from there. My disadvantage is my daughter is no longer modeling age (she's 13), but I still have fun. Carol |
