My DD wants want me to make a Pageant Style dress for her DD (my one and only GDD). You know, the kind with the FULL petticoats, lots of lace, puffed sleeves, etc. I have looked at all the major pattern companies and cannot find one. She is not particular if it is long or short, but if she had her "druther's" she'd like one of each. Although my DD was a model, that isn't why she wants the dress for GDD. She just wants to be able to dress her up fancy for pictures and such. Can anybody help me find such a pattern? TIA CharliAnn <email address removed for privacy> |

I don't know which of the Big 4 pattern companies, but one of them makes Daisy Kingdom Patterns.. They had one about 3 years ago, because I used it for my DGD.. I did not like what they did for a slip (dress lining).. So I took some cotton lining fabric and stitched rows of tulle gathered onto the lower 3rd of the petticoat and then applied a top layer of the cotton lining. Worked great for her..

Would a costume pattern work? There are lots of different costume patterns at www.sewingpatterns.com. I was looking through them the other day as my wonderful step daughter is hoping to get married this next summer and she wants a dress that is all loose panels, kind of ballerina like and I was checking out the costume patterns.

check out Martha Pullen's site, Sew beautiful magazine (sometimes pattterns are there too), (Marthapullen.com) her book Heirloom Sewing for Jack and Jill has many gorgeous patterns for girls and boys. The book is a bit pricy though, $40-50.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I had such a mind-set that I was not looking at options. I had thought of Martha Pullen, but had not gone to her site yet as I knew all her stuff was so expensive. However, after talking again to Debra, and learning she wanted a series of dresses as TrinityMarie grew up, I might be wise to go there. Hadn't thought of Daisy Kingdom or of a costume, but an Alice costume with or without the pinafore might be just the ticket! Thank you all again! CharliAnn <email address removed for privacy> |

You also might try a search on patternreview.com (http://patternreview.com/). you may find both a pattern and a few good reviews on it as well.
