Hi, I have read but can't remember where, you use cotton diapers for burp rags. But I saw they were cover with cute fabric. Any one can tell me how to sew them on or do I wrap the whole fabric around the diaper? Thanks Valerie |

Hi Valerie. I made a half dozen burp pads for my niece in July and they were really simple to make. I purchased a half dozen of the pre-folded diapers; did the embroidery I wanted on the bottom of them; backed them with flannel prints from the receiving blankets I made her; cut bias binding from the same flannel; layered the embroidered diaper and the flannel; sewed a 1/8 seam around the edges to attach them together and then just bound them with the bias binding strips I cut from the flannel just likeyou would a quilt. I have some pictures on the digital I will get dh to download for me and I'll put them on my Yahoo site so you can see them. They are really easy and quick to make. Patsy Patsy

That is a picture of the F5 tornado that struck Oklahoma City a few years ago. It was the most horrifying thing I have ever seen. It came within about a mile and a half of our housing development and the made a slight right turn and went northeast. Ask me how hard and how fast I can pray now. Patsy Patsy

Now I can see what the burp pads look like - I was having trouble visualing them. I assume these are for tossing over your shoulder for when the baby possets?

Very cute Jan, I like the embroidery you did. Everytime I see embroidery I start wishing for an embroidery machine. Magot - possets? Is that like spits up or throws up?? We had tenants from Australia for 5 months and we had the most fun time discovering all the new words they use and teaching them all our strange slang. Laura

Jan your first meaning of posset is the reason I mad the burp cloths and yes to who ask if these are made to drape over the shoulder when holding a baby. Babies have a way, especially when you're ready for church, etc. of regurgitating their milk, baby food, etc. all over the front and down the back of your clothes that leaves a wonderful smell. I have the pattern for the ones that are shaped at the shoulder but I've never figured out how those could be useful as most generally your shoulder and arm are what seem to receive most of the joyful offerings of the little "bundles of love". I'm in the process of embroidering and assembling another batch of these useful baby items and will post pictures when they're finished, along with the hooded towels that I'm making. I currently have 2 baby girls (twins already here) and four baby boys (expected in October, November and December) to make shower gifts for and now, our first meeting for Christmas pageant is Aug. 23 and I will receive my orders for another bazillion costumes to be finished by December 11th. I've always tended to use muslin nappies for the same purpose, it's amazing how far the gloop can go isn't it? I love those hooded bathtowels.Lucky lot of babies in your church Patsy. Is it me or doesn't it feel like you just finished the easter stuff? Mary, always willing to share the love, you know me! love and kisses, Jan

Just so I understand ... after embroidering the diaper (looks like the kind you buy from Walmart or Target, right), you add a flannel to it and then bind it with the flannel fabric right? Do you have anything in between the diaper and the flannel (or just those two?) When you embroider it, how did you do it (stabilizer wise)? TIA BTW great idea! - Brenda -

BRG the burp pads that I posted, I embroidered on the diapers, backed them with flannel, stitched 1/8" all around to keep the two together then use the flannel binding on them, just like you bind a quilt, mitering the corners, etc. The ones I'm working on now I'm using a layer of flannel for the back, a layer of batting and the fronts are the diaper fabric that I bought at Hancock's and cut it into 11" x 17" rectangkes. I'm embroidering on the diaper fabric and then stitching the 3 layers together and binding with cotton bias binding that I bought. Patsy Patsy

Sounds neat ... so you use a batting in the middle ... that makes it nice n thick! I used to use diaper "rags" as my burping "towels"! Thank you! - Brenda -
