‘Quilts, Quills & Bears’
Giant Quilt Show and Sale Premiers this September
Quilts
The Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario announces a new and unique quilt show and sale to be held this September that will be one of the largest shows in Ontario. The ‘Quilts, Quills & Bears’ show will be held September 16, 17 and 18 at Hall #1 of the International Centre, 6900 Airport Rd. in Mississauga, ON. Over 600 new and heritage quilts and wall hangings from all over Ontario will be displayed and many will be for sale. Renowned quilters and workshop leaders Nancy Bergman, Cheryl Wray and Kathleen Bissett will be giving innovative hands on workshops. Viewers have a chance to vote for their favourite quilt and will enjoy live demonstrations, a merchant mall and a variety of door prizes.
Quills
A book launch of ‘Quincy and His Quilt: A Northern Adventure’ by FWIO author Loreen Ambler will be held on Friday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. Loreen was the winner of the FWIO’s 2004 Children’s Storybook Competition, and she will be on hand to autograph her book.
Bears
All show goers are invited to bring a teddy bear to donate to ‘Good Bears of the World Canada’. Our goal is to completely fill an emergency vehicle with thousands of bears! This organization will distribute the bears to police, fire departments, hospitals, etc. to comfort anyone experiencing an emergency or distressful situation. All kinds of bears are welcome - purchased or hand made.

Show co-ordinator Arthena Hecker says this is a show not to be missed! “We are excited by the beautiful quilts and various techniques being offered for both show and sale. The workshops will be of interest to all levels of quilters. There is also a bear-making workshop being offered. Come and enjoy these colourful and beautifully designed works of art. You will be pleased you did!”

Show times are Friday, September 16 - 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.; September 17 - 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and September 18 - 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $15.00 at the door for adults, $12.00 for seniors and W.I. members, $10.00 for children under 12. Advance tickets are available for $10.00. To order tickets call the FWIO provincial office: 519-836-3078. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada.
