Hello,

My Dad has asked me to help him with assembling an American revoluionary war outfit. Does anyone have any ideas how to find patterns, fabric, etc.

I've done some casual sewing, but nothing I don't think, of this scale.

Thanks,

Sarah

Are any of these any good?
http://www.folkwear.com/patternindex.html
or look under simplicity.com Go to costumes and civil war. The other big pattern companies may well have things under costumes as well.

Sewing Old Tyme Garments are so much fun & now days there are several major pattern companies that carry the reproduction patterns. They r spendy but if ya get signed up at one of the major fabric stores ya can get them for under 2.00 when they run the specials
I have been doing Custom designs in Leather & Cloth for many years and every form of Living History Garments you can think of.
Watch your Wal Marts for the 1.00 a yard fabric...some of this is really good fabric. If you are not sure if it is 100% cotton or wool just ask for a snipping, take the snipping outside & do a burn test on it, 100% wool or cotton will be a clean ash (light the fabric with lighter & blow out quickly) synthetics & polies will have a ridge on it when blown out & will feel like a plastic roll.
Happy Sewing

Hi Sarah,
Welcome to Sew Whats New. Look around our site and join in the discussion, challenges or swaps.
I think I would go look at one of the Big 3 patterns in the cistume dept and find a pattern. I know they have some patterns out there that are almost a dupilicate of real civil war wear. Some ladies who come into where I work have them as they do the re-enactments.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
