yeah- my husband found this beautiful sewing machine, in a sturdy case, with this little vinyl slipcover, sharp needle already in there, works GREAT - I love it because it doesn't do any tricks at all. just goes forward, backward, has a little zigzag stitch for when we're feeling festive - it's more than thirty years old but built so solid and even the little light still works.

BUT - the bobbin does not seem to want to wind. I disengaged the needle, threaded the spool in the bobbin-winding manner, put the bobbin on the bobbin-winding spindle, clicked it into place, stepped on the pedal and...nothin'. I mean, the machine was spinning but the bobbin winder wasn't.

any thoughts?

Do you have to MOVE the bobbin back or forth to engage the bobbin winder ?
Does it have a dial on the front with a bobbin symbol ? move it to that and it should engage the winder...

If none of that works..you might wanna take it in and see if the winder is broken, thats why it went into the trash (some people don't wanna pay for
repairs).

www.google.com might find you some answers about your machine.

What is that saying .."One persons trash is another persons prize"..?? I forget the words..but whatever the proper words are..it is true. :bg: Hmm, I think that saying is one man's garbage is another man's treasure..LOL (still thinking about that saying). Does anyone know the proper words to this saying.

On most sewing machines, if you take off the lid, you can see that there's a little rubber o-ring that goes around the bobbin winder wheel. If that rubber ring is dried out or worn the bobbin won't rewind properly. Wal-Mart sells a generic type replacement that works well (it comes with a rubber belt & o-ring for about $1.25) Usually it's not too hard to replace.

You might also want to check the handwheel. On older Singer machines (like my Singer Fashion Mate 257) there is an inner knob. You need to loosen the knob (maybe turning it towards you) in order for the bobbin threading to take place. That knob also allows for the needle action to be disengaged on most models. If all else fails, try going to the Singer Sewing Co. website and see if you can find an old owners manual for that model that you can download for free. If they don't have one, maybe a quick email to their tech support might be helpful too.

Just a thought... :re:

antiprincess, sorry I am not familiar with your model but when it comes to disengaging the clutch to wind a bobbin some Singers have an indented area in the handwheel rather than a knob to disengage. If your machine has this indented area just push it in and it will release the clutch so you can wind the bobbin.
