:Canada:

We have just moved from Winnipeg to Halifax and in the move my Dritz dress form was broken.

I saw on the Dritz site that there is a new dress form, the body double deluxe.

Does anyone know of a store that sells this dress form in Halifax or some where in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. If not even a Canadian company that I could order one from.

I've come to realize that things here in the maritimes are harder to get....I'm missing the selection of the big cities!!! :bluesad: Still good to be back home though!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Karen,
Mary is going to be your best bet on this one.. You're in her habitat now, and as you know (maybe) she is the Head Honcho here... :bg: :bg:

Hi there. I am in Halifax and I believe Fabricville handles those dressforms. If not, try Atlantic Fabrics. If all else fails, there is one for sale in the For Sale forum. I will look it up for you.

Hey Jeanette,

With the use of the word "posting" I can only gather you are a military family as well. Well I should say we are now a civi family as my husband took his retirement after 26 years......still feels weird saying he is retired.

I guess the military has it's advantages when you join at 17. Got to love the pension!!

I'm originally from here, I left at 17 as well to join the military. It does feel wonderful to be back. It is so pretty and peaceful here.

As for the dressforms, I will check out Fabricville and Atlantic but I think they carry the body double, not the deluxe body double model.
The deluxe model is blue and has a foam backing for easier pinning. It also has extended shoulders and you are able to fit pants on it.

I figure if I have to get a new one I would love to have one with the new features.....but what sewer doesn't want the latest and greatest!

What whould you say are the most important messurements when buying a dressform? Is it ok to stay closer to the waist and hip messurements than the bust messurment, since my "problem areas" are between waist and hip (I have a little produding tommy)? If I would go for that the bust messurements would be about 2" larger. Could that cause a problem?

Thank you so much for your help in advance

Hey Chrisk,

I have a similar problem with fitting as you exept it is in reverse.

My top half is larger than the bottom.

I can only comment on the Dritz dressform as that is the only one I have owned. I found it had more measurement choices. I really needed the back lenght to be adjustable.

The dress form comes in different sizes. Each size, mine for example is a small, but the range of sizes helps fitting issues.
So my small cover a bust size 33" to "41
waist 26" to 34"
hips 36" to 44"

My measurements fall within these ranges so I have no problems.
You can check out the dritz site to see the various size ranges.

Hope this helped or it was what you were looking for.

Hi Karen,

I saw them at the Fabric Stores and thought that the material would be hard to put pins in and the dails where also hard to adjust that I was afraid they could break of. Maybe it was just the demo. Have you had yours long? What do you like or dislike on your Dritz form?

Where did you find a Dritz? Fabricville only has Diana's and I have heard they are the very worst! $279.99

Hi ladies,

I'm with Mary on the Diana dressforms from fabricville.
When I looked at them my main concern was the backlength could not be changed.

Maybe the newer models have this size adjustment but it is one adjustment that I found quite useful.

In Canada dressforms are hard to find. Many sewing stores don't carry them ( too costly) or they only carry the Diana, which has the lower price than all the other dressforms.

I eventually had to order mine from A great Notion Supply in BC. The movers broke mine on our move out to NS so they had to replace mine. They ended up paying $400.00 Cdn for it, but it was the only place I could find the Body Duble Deluxe. The Body double is around $200.00.

I wanted the ability for doing pants. Other than that there isn't much difference between the deluxe and the Body Double model.

Yes the dials are small, but once I set them they usually don't change. I guess if you were sewing for many people the small dials could be a bother to keep changing.

I bought the Body Double many years ago and I have only had the Deluxe model for a year. Again it suits my needs and I am very happy with it.

Again it is personal preference and what was available in the Canadian market at that time. maybe there are different models out there now.
There are many more to pick from on the US sewing sites, if you are from there. And a whole lot cheaper as well!

Hope this helped!

Happy New Year!

Ok, thanks a bunch. Yes, that was a big help. I totally forgot about A Great Notion. That is a hefty price, I will have to think about it a bit. I want it for pants too. How can you make alterations by yourself, it's impossible.

Mary,

I saw the Dritz in Joanns and Hancock in Florida. Now that you mentioned Pants I would have to look at another model. You are right they are pricy. This is one reason I asked for oppinions before I would buy one but if you do a lot of sewing it would eventually pay off in time.
