Hello! I've only just found this website and think it is fantastic. I didn't know where to post an introduction, but since I mainly sew for my 2yo daughter I figured I'd start here!

I'm a fairly new sewer. I started by taking lessons about a year and a half ago. I have made all sorts of dresses and outfits for Kate and I just love it! I have also done a whold cloth quilt, some taggie type blankets, hooded towels, and bibs. I'm in the process of making a "Thomas the Tank Engine" dress for her since you can't find anything in that theme for girls in the store.

I am looking forward to getting to know some of you and getting some new ideas and inspiration! If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll share some of what I've done for her.

Welcome and join the fun, the people here are very friendly and informative so share away!
As far as I know to post a picture you post a link to where the piccy is on the web - so you need to have an album or a web page with your stuff on to show us your goodies!

Did you hand or machine quilt your wholecloth quilt? I love the look of those but what a load of work!
love and kisses, Jan

Welcome Sews4Kate,
Glad you are giving us a try. I believe you will like it here. Hope that you will join in our discussions and try some of our swaps and challenges. The best way to post pictures is to get an album page and then include the link. Many people have the link in the signatures, then it can be visited by anyone here at any time. If you need any help with that just holler and lots of people will be here to help you out. Posting pictures on the boards takes up a lot of Mary (the owner) bandwidth, which can cause some troubles down the road. Having an album is nice to share pictures with, you can keep adding them and we all can keep looking at them.

Thank you for the welcome! I've had a chance to look around on this site, it is going to be a wonderful place to come for inspiration, tips, and hopefully make some friends!

I have made an album and I pray that this works!
http://photobucket.com/albums/v357/Wendy523/sewing%20projects/
these are only a few of the things I've done since I started sewing. The most recent is the brown and pink jumper and bloomers for a friend and the arm chair.

Magot, the quilt I did is in the album with the matching bib if you are interested in seeing it. It was super easy to do, I machine quilted a diamond shape around one of the pictures in the center of nursery toile (Humpty Dumpty) and then made bigger diamonds around it, kind of like a bulls eye if that makes sense. I have some fabric ready to cut and make my first patchwork quilt that will match the arm chair I made for Kate's bedroom.

The chiar is adorable and with your little girl. Isn't it fun to sew for our children? Mine are grown with children of their own but it is just as much fun to sew for the grandchildren.

I really like the chair, how original! Your daughter is adorable as well and your sewing looks great. As I was looking at her pictures I was thinking, how many kids pic's are now being displayed worldwide for people to see, talk about a 'brag book'. Welcome.

Hi, I am new to sewing baby stuff. How did you make the taggie baby blankets? Valerie

Hi Valerie!
The taggie blankets are super easy.

You will need two rectangles of fleece. (one could be fleece and the other flannel or a silky material, I've done a few different combinations, the silky stuff is a pain to work with IMO). Cut the rectangles to whatever size you want, include seam allowance.

You will then need some satin ribbon, I use several different colors and sizes for variety. Cut the ribbon into 3" pieces, fold in half and pin to the right side edge of one of the pieces. the raw edges of the fabric and raw edges of the ribbon should line up. I usually just eyeball the placement of the ribbons, but it is spaced about every 2", make sure to keep the ribbons atleast 1" away from the corners.

Sew each ribbon in place in a 1/4" seam allowance.

Then put the second piece of fabric on top of the ribbon piece so it is right sides together. Sew around with a 1/2" seam allowance. Leave an opening so you can turn it right side out.

Clip corners and turn right side out, press lightly, you can slip stitch the opening closed if you want, I usually just close it up with the topstitch.

Top stich 1/4 in from the edge all the way around.

there you go! If you have any questions let me know, I'm not sure if I am good at giving instructions LOL.

Those are all the rage now in baby stuff. If you have a new baby coming into the world, make a set. I have done these for the hospital where my one GD was born. I make 3 different size blankets, the first one large enough to go over the car seat, the second smaller to wrap the baby in and the third smaller yet with the ribbon loops. All are made of the same fabric. The reason for the smaller one is they can tuck it into the diaper bag or let the baby carry it. They like the silkness of the ribbons and when out and about it is small enough for them to handle. I see moms having these with their little ones and they keep them content. You can attach one of those clips to the car seat or the cart so dear baby doesn't drop it on the floor/ground.

Nice meeting you. You've done beautiful work in the past 18 months. Sure doesn't look like beginner's work to me.
