Nope, haven't read them but I have seen bits and pieces of the show. Where are they? It looks like a castle on a cliff.

This is going to sound nasty, but I DON'T mean it to....
Why would someone NEED a 'life coach' ??? I thought after you were born, your parents TAUGHT you things to help you live your life, and if they didn't /couldn't, you were pretty much on your own to LIVE your life, the way YOU want to.
People USED to have 'common sense'. What's happened to that ???
Common sense, THOUGHT, and imagination go a LONG way.

I guess thats why I don't see the attraction of people like, Dr. Phil and Martha Stewart. All of what they say is common sense and imagination.
Have that many people LOST the ability to have a thought, past the 5 minute
consentration point ???

(you may all now berate me at your leisure) :bolt:

The ladies on Starting Over are staying at a mansion that overlooks LA.

I think what Life Coaching is about is helping people to look outside of the box. There are times in ones life that people get into a rut and are unable to see a way to get out. :bang:

Like on Starting Over some of the people on there have started a new career, over come spending addictions, reconnected with family members, healed relationships and stuff like that. I think that the role of the life coach is to help people see things from a different angle. People try to deal with alot of these situations on their own then quickly become overwelmed, side tracked or lost for a way to deal with what they are going thru.
I don't think these things have anything to do with common sense. Sometimes people just need some one to get them started on the right path or to bounce ideas off of.

As far as Martha Stewart, she is not a life coach...she is a lady that has used her common sense and style to promote a way of decorating and entertaining. Lots of people would love to be creative like her and that is why she makes millions of dollars selling her books and magazines. This next TV season she will even have a show on TV with people wanting to be like her....go figure! :re:

Then there is Dr. Phil~otherwise known as "tell it like it is Phil". I love what this man does for people. He doesn't sugar coat things....and for some people they just need to be told "how the cow ate the cabbage". Dr Phil has helped ALOT of people...there again people just need a push in the right direction.
Take his weightloss ideas...yea pretty much common sense, but he presents each of the 7 Keys with his own (tell it like it is) style.
I really love it when people tell him what ideas they have been trying to solve their problems and he says..."How's that working for ya?" He gives them other ways of tackling their situation....Hey there are lots of ways to eat an elephant but each of the ways starts with the first bite. He just helps them go in the right direction.

Believe me in this day and age I find it refreshing to see people trying to better themselves and if it takes a Life Coach or a Dr Phil, then more power to them. I sure could use a session with Dr. Phil....sometimes I find that some of the issues I deal with are like nailing Jello to a wall.... I just need someone to vent to...... :bluewink:

I shall not berate you Kath.
I agree. Although I have noticed there are a lot of people out there that can use help in the common (or any kind of) sense department and if they are willing to pay for it....well there is always someone out there to take advantage.

We have a plethera of programms on Brit TV at the moment devoted to "how to bring up your kids" Little Angels, House of Tiny Tearaways, Supernanny and so on. I love watching them if only for the smug " that the way I did it "factor but the truth remains that some people either a) don't notice/listen when they are being parented, b) are too weak to stick at something for the long term goal and give in to the short term pain,c) need someonewho is NOT connected to them to give them advice. Who listens to those close to you who might know something....
And there are those who think that if you pay for advice it is worth more than if someone gave it to you free!

Many Cambridge/Oxford graduates come to work at the MRC Cambridge fine minds many of them - an ounce of common sense? do me a favour...

I totally agree. My husband and I know a few very notable professionals who couldn't raise a cat, never mind a kid.

We have some noted Nobel prize winners who are so eccentric it is absurd - one gentleman was given to nervously chewing on whatever came to hand - including the piece of card upon which my friends experimental results were written on - had to wrench it out of his grip he did.
