If I could have anything I wanted in my sewing room I would have......

What would you want or dream of having in your sewing room?

I don't need a thing but I would love a maid. :bg: Not just for the sewing room either. I really just need some reorganization.

I have most of what I want already (the secret to life is being content in what you have).

However, if I were to really dream, I want a ton of storage space for organized fabric...maybe a huge double door closet with shelving on rollers where I could pull the fabric out as I went though it, a huge apothocary chest (a huge chest of drawers with stacks full of little tiny drawers) for storing all the little sewing notions, a blindstitch machine and a commercial or near-commercial embroidery machine (I'd be very happy with a PR600 with all the hoops and "stuff").

If I could have anything, I would want a sewing room that was *only* for sewing, and more importantly, a 'Do Not Disturb' sign that people actually took seriously!
Take care,

I would like a table so my machine could drop down in it and would be level with the table. Would be great for (attempting) machine quilting, as well as sewing curtains and such.

A nice big u shaped desk that all my machines & serger could fit on, a comfortable high back rolling sewing chair,
And a new Janome 300e, because I don't yet have an embroidery machine. :re:
But I am tremendously happy with what I have, too. :bg:
And most of all for my incredibly supportive and understanding dh who allows me to stay home and sew for my family, and pays for all my goodies.
I am blessed.

I am buying it used.. It has no manuel or power cord.. But it is really cheap! I've already started to look around for a power cord for it. I found the manuel :bluesmile

My dreams are bigger than my abilities!! :re: Let's see-I'd be interested in a new 4 thread serger (although I have no idea what I'd do with 4 threads!), a larger corner to sew in (a whole room is just too much for my use), but mostly I think I just need more practice and confidence in myself. Otherwise my little area is in pretty good shape! Oh, and there's always the need for more time to sew...LOL!

To Mary: is there a possibility of having a Show & Tell Forum, where we can post pics of our projects and sewing rooms? I'd love to see what others make and their sewing areas or rooms! :bg:

Well I'd need a sewing room for a start... :re: I'm sewing at one end of the dining table. But then what can I do? we live in a 40-m² flat. :bluewink:

What I would LOVE at least is shelves. So the table wouldn't a permanent mess. I've been crying for shelves for 5 months. DBF says the walls are too thick and he needs a special drill. He hasn't bought the drill yet. :bang:

I would love to have a dressform but this will really have to wait at least 3 years, when we get paid more and can move to larger place!

I have half of the family room, which is almost enought room. I would love a dressform. I just put up one of those garage organizer pegboards and it's wonderful for organization. I almost forgot that I would love to splurge on a set of really, really good scissors...

I woould love a dressform. And someone to come in and organize my fabrics for me. I have a whoole room and after about 4 years, have it set up to work for me. Of course, anyone who is right handed, has a problem because every thing is set up for me and I am left handed (it does keep everybody out of my room)

I would like a sewing room that is only a sewing room, no computer or man stuff like motorcycle books, car pictures etc! And a very large tall cutting table, I'm tired of bending over the dining room table which is too low and spreading threads from the dining room through the living room into the sewing/computer room.

storage space, sigh.... my fabric stash is downstairs in the laundry area and my sewing stuff is one dedicated corner of our front porch/mudroom. I also need somehow to organize my notions, seems everytime I zip into get thread etc I end up with a new under $10 toy but they are everywhere now and I can never find what I need when I want it!! :nc:

Cann't you make contact with neighbours and ask them if they are willing to lend you such a malletdrill. You mark the places where the shelves have to come, you buy the stuff, and when you can borrow the drill. you put the drill at the table and so when one day the hubby comes home he only needs to put the drill to the wall. :bg:

In the US you would be able to rent those at an equipment rental shop. They rent all kinds of things by the day or half day, from heavy road equipment to punch cups. Do you have those in Europe? It could save you a lot of money.

Thank you Pam, it is just the drill bit I need, the drilling machine we have... But it seems it's not so easy to find a bit thick enough to pierce the wall.
Thank you for being so helpful! I may be able to rent that indeed.

I will show your and François's advice to Seb and see if it makes him realize he has no excuse :re:
I would do it myself, only that damn drilling machine is so heavy!

Zabelle, I do not know how high your appartment is, but is it not possible for to make a hook and a 'poulie' (sorry I only know the french word for it) in the ceiling, so that you dan place your sewingdummy (your Diana) at the ceiling, say in the hall?

Since quite a few people would like a dress form and can't afford one may I suggest making your own? Threads magazine has directions for that. Go to
taunton.com/threads/pages/t00002_p2.asp. I printed out the directions and will attempt to make one. It is made out of a tee shirt and duct tape. :pc:

Ohh, so many things. More storage for my ever increasing stash, more money to increase my stash more, more time to sew it! A proper sewing cabinet, dressform, top of the line computerised embroidery machine. A bigger sewing room so I'm not tripping over all the stuff that won't fit in the rest of the house (children's Xmas presents etc). Oh, and enough possum skins to make a full length fur coat. B4 anyone gets up in arms about the fur thing, over here they are not farmed, they are a pest and are destroying our native forests.
I would also like an industrial machine. :re:

To start, I would like a sewing room, actually a sewing building would be ideal!! It is my hope that my husband and I will be able to get buy a house come Income Tax Return and if we can get a small building (pre-built shed-type thing would be perfect) that would be my sewing haven. I need shelves too, a tall cutting table I hate bending over the table too. A serger, and an embroidery machine. More fabric, my stash is already too large for my current space, but this is a wish list right. A filing cabinet for my patterns, currently they reside in a 3 ring binder seperated into ziplock bags. This works well enough since I only have a few patterns at the moment and I just alter the ones I have to fit what I need. A comfortable chair to sit in while I sew, the chairs we have right now are downright painful if you sit in them for extended periods of time....well I'm sure I could think of more, but I will leave it at that for now.

Oh, I do feel guilty wanting while being tuned into the news. I either need to learn discipline in putting my cutting stuff away every day from the dining room table or a dedicated cutting area. I would also like a hidden place for my boxes of fabrics to be stored, or discipline to stop buying so much more than I can sew up quickly!

En anglais, une poulie is a PULLEY.

Regarding the shelves, I've sliced an old bookcase in half and stood it on top of an old desk. Now the desk holds my sewing machine and the bookcase sits right behind it. So I have shelves without drilling. I too am in a flat... (Ah to have my own home... soon, soon... :bluesad: )

Besides, having your dummy hanging in the hall would make for a wonderful hallowe'en decoration if you throw a party... :nah:

Bonne chance, Zabelle!

I had this brilliant idea, but by the time I'd finished reading all of the posts I'd lost my train of thought.
I would love to get a new sewing machine (right now I'm using my Mom's sewing machine since she's not likely to really want it back soon). I think I want some sort of Bernina, I don't really know, but we do have a new Bernina store right next to my grocery store.
Oh well, I'll think of what it is later.

:dave: welcome to the club of fabric addicts

My wish at the moment is a storage room for my fabric. The walls in my bedroom have been draped, not by walpaper but by shelves and they contain ...... fabric and fabric. I am in the proces of offering the half of the hall for shelves as well, but that still has a little resistance of my better half. "I already sleep in a tissu wearhouse. Do I have to live in one as well?" :bg: Yeah, well, I only have to convince him, that living in and passing through for going to the other rooms, is not the same.

I got a nice little cabinet for my sewing machine at Wal-Mart for under $100.00! It works just great, does have some storage space for extra notiions, bobbins and material. I have limited space in my sewing room because it doubles as a computer room and yes, must not forget, My ShihTzus bedroom.

Well after reading all the posts I see more things I could want. I have a dedicated sewing room, just the two of us and three bedrooms means i get one to sew in. I would love a nice long desktop that goes all the way across one wall to set the machines on. It would have enough room to handle the big pieces of fabric and if the machine could set down inside it that would be great. More storage is always a need. A bigger cutting table would be nice. So many things. I would love a new embroidery machine. I have one but use it mostly for sewing. I would like to rip out the carpeting in that room because the pins get into it and then someone (dh) always steps on one! Good reason to stay out of there I tell him.
