Tension headaches. You know, if you got it from a singer dealer, you might call them up and let them earn the mark up from the sale. My only hint, tinker in small > minute< changes, and only change top or bottom, but not both, if you can help it. It takes a lot of doing sometimes.

Two simple and small things that can work are either adjusting the bobbin winding tension and winding new bobbins and/or changing the needle. I have had luck with my singer doing both.I have also had the same thing happen when my thread was old.I never realized that thread went "bad" !!

Glad it's all working now. It's a good feeling when you can fix your own problems like that.

Jana, I'm so glad you posted that Q, which comes up again and again. I bookmarked that site I told you about. Well, last week I tried a heavier thread and larger needle, and sure enough, the tension was way off. I fiddled with it a bit, and then retired for the evening. The next day, I read (studied!) that article, and when I sat down at the machine to fix it, I got it right on the first try! I never thought that day would come!

Each manufacturer has their own bobbins - some are interchangeable BUT some are not. Even within manufacturers, different models may use different bobbins.

There are slight differences in the width, the height, and even the holes/slots/knotches etc that match the bobbin casing within the machine.

If the machines says to use plastic, do not be tempted to use metal - no, no! Cheap generics are not worth the effort and problems that they can cause.

A quick google notes that for you machine, you need Bobbins # 172222 P, # 172336.

[this is mostly a re-post of one of my previous replies]
