Hi, I am probably going to buy a Elna sewing machine. I check out the viking & decided not to go with the viking. What does people like & dislike on the Elna? Thanks for any thoughts. Today is my Birthday so I will be getting new machine next week when I figure out which one I want. Valerie

Valerie,
Good luck with your machine hunting. I have the Elna 6005 - good bang for my $ when I bought it 2 years ago.
I got a great deal , my dealer is 10 minutes drive away so that kind of influenced me. However having said that I sew most of my clothes, swimwear and I like to quilt - I am getting addicted to free motion so I need to pracice alot pity about not having the time tho'.
I like the different button holes, the needle threader (which I have had replaced twice), it is an easy machine to use, quiet so DH doesn't mind me sewing while he watches TV, needle up/down. I do not like the zipper foot which comes with the machine so I have another foot from my 30 yr old machine whcih fits.
The machine is light and easy to transport to quilting classes a bigger harp area would be nice for quilting those queen/king size quilts.
I would take as many different types of material with you to test drive. It is easy to clean the bobbin area
Have fun with your test drives.

Hi Valerie, I don't have an Elna-I'm kind of partial to Singer's. However, I wanted to wish you a :bday: :bday: ! Yesterday was my birthday too.

I'm partial to Janome's....I have 4 ( soon to have 5 , I hope).

6500 Quilt Pro has the biggest throat in the industry, for home sewing.
The NEW 6600 will be appearing shortly, if it hasn't already on the Janome website.

The Elnas are made by Janome and distributed by Tacony.

I have one Elna, and have never had a problem with it. I have 6 machines all together and really have never had a problem with any of them. Oh they are not all Elna's, but for my Elna I have never had any problems at all.

Hi, I bought Elna Quilter's Dream 2 on Tuesday. It was my BD. I had bought Brother's, but it had loosy buttonhole maker. I sew all day on my new machine. I am making baby blankets & baby stuff. It is so much fun to do the lettering. I mess up some of the blankets when I letter, but you can hardly see it. thanks for all the info you gave me on Sewing Machines Valerie
