Hi, I am trying to make washcloths. I went to the big sale at Joann & handcock stores today. I bought single bias tape (to small), & matching thread. I try to sew them together the terrycloth & bias tape. I now have wavy washcloths. I try to do the washcloths without the bias tape, better but not great. My serger is in the shop right now. So I thought I would try it on my new Elna Quilter Dream 2. Ok what did I do wrong & when I get my serger back is their any suggestions on sewing with stretch terry & bias tape? These are for my new & only grandson coming in late Oct. Valerie

I use cotton interlock knit for baby washcloths.. Just a double thickness and I serge the edges with wooly nylon in the loopers.. All my friends and acquaintances love them.. I also buy the single knit cotton baby prints a lot for this.. I get 3 across using a double thickness .. (fabric is 60 inches wide..) :bg: :bg: :bg:

Valerie, I often use my walking foot on stretchy fabric to stop it from going wavy. It worked well on some fleece I sewed a zipper into, the first time I sewed it with the ziper foot it went all wavy. It's not the ideal foot for putting on bias tape but ever since I took up machine quilting and discovered it, I use it on a lot of different things. ciao, Jen

Is this what it is called in the stores?
I don't want to look silly by asking for cotton interlock knit? Is it available at Joanne's or Walmart? Have another gbaby and grandniece/nephew coming in Jan and thought this would be great! Thanks for posting this idea~

Interlock is the doubleknit cotton.. Singleknit is the one that is very thin and if pulled a little , curls a lot.. Interlock is more like the quality tees or golf shirts that you buy.. If you find the singleknit in cute baby prints, they make great baby washcloths.. You don't want them too heavy anyway.. I try to get the lighter weight interlock for washcloths, if I am buying specifically for that.. Most of the time, I use remnants of other interlock projects for the washcloths.. I buy the singleknit specially for them, though..

I made baby washcloths out of some really soft hand towels I got on sale at walmart for really cheap. I serged the edges, and got a bit of the wave thing going, but they weren't too bad, once they got washed again, they seemed to go back into shape. I didn't use wooly nylon and I need to try again with that thread to see if it works better.
