I was at the fabric store yesterday and picked up this advertisement for a "Factory Authorized Public Sale - Singer Heavy Duty School Model Sew and Serge Sewing Machines". I poked around on the internet for a while, but this machine doesn't appear on the Singer site or anywhere that I could find. I did notice that an ad almost identical to this one had appeared all over the country.
Does anybody know about these machines, or this sale? I'm interested in a new heavy duty machine, but not interested in getting ripped off.
Many thanks,
Kate

I have seen those ads in this area. I know one person that got a sewing machine from them and she has been happy with it.

They are a scam. They come in one day and are gone the next with your money. Hey i fell for it too. I have one of thier machines but they are not school models and they are far from heavy duty.

Please read about the scam before you purchase.

Most of the time they come into your town and they sell the machines with out a business license and there is no recourse if the machine is a lemon.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll save my $200 or send it to the Red Cross.

I also got one from my local Hancock Fabrics store, and I did go and check out the machines. They were definately authorized Singer machines and sales people there to sell them. These new machines are now up on their website. I didn't particularly care for them myself, but the main guy from Singer gave me some great info on the machine I already have, and recommended that I keep using it instead of buying one of these newer machines he had. I had initially gone there to see if one of those machines would be a good Christmas present of my daughter. Both of the salesmen were completely well versed on all of Singers' machines, and even had a few brand new sergers there for sale too. Ohhhh, was I tempted, but I didn't! The Singer truck in the parking lot was a good clue that they were for real, and my local Singer dealer had told me they were coming to our area too. Sorry if you got the wrong info before.

Hey Amy,
Long time no, see.. My newspaper had a full page ad today about these.. the Fabric shops here won't allow them in, so they go to the K-marts here.. I forwarded the website you linked above to the Adv. editor of my newspaper along with a note about what a scam it is.. I wish the NC Atty.Gen. would bar them from the state.. The machines end up in yard sales.. we see them all the time for $ 5.00 or $10.00 , and they are not even worth that.. all rusty and parts broken off etc... Pure junk..Anyway, I did my good deed for the day and played whistleblower..
