Just received this today. It does my heart good to read it. I know you will all be happy to know this.

It would take more than that ole hurricane to get rid of me. I'm a survivor and we are doing well. We are going to stay here until we can find a place near where we were going to move anyway. My husband went back down closer to Baton Rouge to work and we are enrolling the kids in school so we are getting settled. I saved my siggy blocks and all my machines and designs, and my hubbys old car. We lost a lot of my cooking things but I'll get those back in time. Mary this storm made me sit up and take notice at what the important things in my life were and it wasn't material things it's the love that everyone is sending like you all. I'll keep in touch. my email address is the same. love susie

Good to hear some good news. Oh, boy. I rarely pop down to Take a Break--always keeping my nose down somehow. It doesn't mean these good people are not on my mind though. As for those who haven't cropped up yet, we can only keep them in our hearts and wait. It has been the ordeal of a lifetime, a tremendous upheaval for so many. We'll have to give them time to make it to dry, safe spots and settle down a bit. So many less fortunate people will have to have hope. We'll have to have hope, too.

nice note from Susie. Thanks for sharing it Mary. Sad that it takes devastation like this for all of us to sit up and realize what is really important. And Susie is right, it's not "things", it's family and friends, health & happiness.

The DIL's are fussing at me because they want to get on the computer to see the pics of Chalmette and I have been on here all morning answering emails and pm's from all of my wonderful friends. I pulled out one of my sewing machines to hem pants for the grands to go to school this morning and I didn't have any straight pins. But I do have 200 spools of embroidery thread, scissors, stablizers, tape measures, rulers, rotary cutters, and everything else I could stash in my bags that would fit in his old car seats and floor board. So I guess I"ll have to make a trip to town today to find the local sewing center, :bg: :bg: :bg: You all know how much I'm going to dread that one. :nah: People have sent clothes, diapers, food, money, and anything you can think of to us, now I'm going to have to start sewing all my thank you tokens. The grands lost their machines so I'll have to start replacing them but they'll get that back. If you would like to see pic of our local news paper with pics go to www.nola.com This is Chalmette right over the grandkids school. http://www.st-bernard.la.us/emprep/katrina/chalmettephoto-med.bmp

This refinery is less than a mile from my house. It's leaking oil as you can see so we won't go back. toxic dump  http://media1.dfw.swagit.com/s/wbrz/The_Advocate/09052005-10.high.mov.html

I clicked on those links last night....it was just so unreal to see all of that flooding and the oil slick from the refinery. Susie, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that you and your family made the right decision to leave the area before the storm hit. I'm going to presume that somewhere in that mess is your previous home. I'm so sorry about all of this happening to you, but like you said it's not about "stuff", it's about family and people. God Bless You, darlin'!

Hey Ladies, We would have never stayed with that big of a storm coming. Just the little TS Cindy that hit us in June tore up our place pretty good. Thanks for all the well wishes. I had to go to town today to see about my auto insurance it expired on the 3rd so I had to take care of that. Then I tried to find the sewing center and couldn't find it I didn't take the map with me when I left so I went on to WalMart and found out there is several fabric stores here and in Monroe so I know I'll be able to sew. I also got some fabric to make kitchen curtains here just to liven the place up a bit but most of all to have something to do. I got my pins and a cushsion so I'm ready to hem pants. I will talk to you all tonight if Mary sets up that chat room she is trying to set up with all of us. Love ya All susie
