I posted this to another forum I belong to, but no one replied yet so I thought I'd x-post hoping for a quicker answer.

Before I sew, would someone please advise whether I should sew the seams on the right side with a tiny zigzag or the wrong side with a regular straight stitch and then turn?

On one seam, I will need to insert a ribbon (which will be used as a tie) halfway down. Perhaps this seam should be sewn differently than the others?
Many thanks,
Amy

When I made a cape out of Faux Fur, I trimmed the seam allowence down to nothing. I butted the seams togethers and used a zig zag stitch, I had to experiment on how big the stitch needed to be. Then when I had the seam done I took a toothbrush and combed the fur out of the seam. If that seems like to much trouble then sew with right sides together and then cut away the fur on the seamline that is in the inside. Try to keep the fur going in the same direction or you will see it pointing out on the seamline.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Summer: Thank you for the tip. That's what I'm going to do. I sewed on faux fur jacket-thingy (hard to describe!) and used this technique, but I wasn't sure if sewing wrong sides together might also be acceptable.

I have "More Fabric Savvy," and I think it's like a sewing bible when it comes to handling fabric. Sandra B. suggests this method as well, so that's why I sewed it on the right side with the little zigzag stitch. Do you have this book? It's wonderful!

Laura, I sent you a private message with yap.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the advice,
Amy
