Hello!

I'm making a costume and the fabric is a jersey with the glitter glued on... I'm going through needles like crazy but that's okay...

My question is: Does anyone know how to reduce the amound of 'shedding' that happens to the glitter... I tried spray starch but it didn't do a thing... Someone mentioned hairspray but I'm hesitant...

I'm sure that some of you have had to use that stuff in the past...

Got any wisdom to share?

Thanks in advance!

In the beginning you loose the loose glitter that isn't well attached. It sometimes seems that you won't have anything left. After a while it is better. It will still shead some but not nearly as bad. I wouldn't use much on it for fear that I would coat the glitter and it wouldn't shimme as much. My daughter wore the new drum major's uniform to the game Friday. With the activity of directing, she had black gliter EVERYWHERE. Next time it won't be as bad. The heat and the humidity of the evening made it a little worse. The main thing is to really clean your machine after sewing that stuff it gets down into your machine and can't be that good for it.

A couple years ago I used glittery fabric for a Xmas stocking and was still sweeping the stuff up at Easter. Never again!

Yeah, I've been cleaning it every time I use it, and the last time, I changed the needle, and re-oiled it thoroughly...

The machine's handling it fine, it's my sewing room that's taking a sprinkling... Looks like I've been murdering pixies in here...

Tammy:

LOL! I'm going to start sewing red and green sequined fabric for our church Christmas musical very shortly so my sewing room should soon look like yours except it will look as though I've been wrestling with "Christmas Elves"!!!

Tammy ROTFLOL, I can just imagine what it looks like. I did a red velveteen dress last winter for my GD and had little red flecks everywhere, and I still keep finding them popping up in places. Oh, I have to go share that one with my girlfriend!! Talk about 'pixie dust'!

Tammy, thanks for the image - I have only just realised that your avatar is an oar - I thought it was a cricket bat! Too much cricket on TV

Funny, I don't know that I would recognize anything that had to do with cricket if I saw it. We just don't see that much in Oklahoma. Now...a football or a baseball bat, a basketball or a soccer ball, or a golf club or teniis racket...that's entirely different. I've never seen rugby either although I know that there are rugby teams in the US.

A football IS a soccer ball - your type of footballis a rugby ball. And rounders is played a bit like baseball only the bat is smaller...
at least I've watched NFL

I've heard that rugby makes our football look "soft". I don't know, I've never seen it played.

Sorry to ruin all the wonderful imagery that you guys have going on, but it's actually a DragonBoat Paddle.

Now, DragonBoaters.... Strong, muscular arms, wearing wetsuits and Lifejackets, all wet... Beats out Football imagery anytime!!!

And since it's mixed, it's a sport everyone can enjoy!!!

LOL!! :bg:
