I have read that fabric softener should not be used when pre-washing fabric for quilting but can't remember seeing the reason for this. Someone, please tell me why fabric softener is not used.

Many thanks,

I hadn't heard this before. I use the fabric softener sheets when I wash my fabric and quilts. Will be interested to hear the reason for this.

I haven't heard this either but I don't use fabric softner when I wash my new material for quilting or applique. Reason I don't is because it makes the material too soft & is harder to work with. Sometimes I spray starch the fabric before cutting & sewing. The fabric is easier to keep on grain when cutting plus sews easier. When I wash my quilts I do use fabric softner so I'm wondering also why we shouldn't use it. Hope someone has the answer.
