My daughter and I bought a meter of this gorgeous fabric today, it is on a knit backing and the top is almost a fleecey finish but it is a pile and incredibly soft. She wants a baby blanket out of it for Callie and we bought some purple satin blanket binding but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to put it on with the pile. Do I try to fold the pile away from the binding as I'm sewing it. I've never put this type of binding on before. I've usually made a bias seam binding then sewn it on so the edges match, then fold it over and topstitch. I don't think that works with this. Any help would be appreciated. I don't think ripping out any stitching will work AT ALL purple fabric 1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/LauraBC/Dsc02882.jpg) purple fabric 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/LauraBC/Dsc02880.jpg) Laura

I usually sew the fabric and then comb or brush the edges to pull the pile out of the seamline. I would try to pull the pile away from the edges as much as possible just because it will be in your line of vision but you can't help but catch it in the seams.

I'd also line it.

I know this is a weird idea, but could you trim the pile off the edges with a mustache trimmer?

Beautiful fabric! I too was thinking of trimming the pile in the seam allowance. Let us know what you decide to do.

A friend gave me abot 8 yards of fabric that looks like your purple but mine is in blue. I think I am going to use it for a baby quilt.

Maybe a stupid question ladies, but did you check the fabric if it is babyproof? I mean did you exercise the tweezers grip, or with other words did you try to pull at the fabric and see if there was coming anything ofof it? If this is yes, I recommand you for not using it for safety purposes. Now for the sewing part, you can trim a little bit around the edges and then you can put biaisband along the edges. Not a small stitch but a rather large one and do not forget for using a ballpoint needle otherwise you will cut the fabric with your needle, after all it is the same as tricot. With kind regards,

not a stupid question. I can kind of picture pulling purple fuzz strands out of a drooley little mouth. You might even find some up a baby's nose and in her diaper! Those little ones with their grasp reflexes! I wonder about fire retardents too. (ugh. did I ruin someone's day?)

You didn;t ruin my day. Just made me realize that I don't know any of those answers about the fabric, so I won't use it for a bady. I haven't had babies around for so long I forget those things. Thanks.

I was wondering about all of those things too. Also, I was wondering if it was washable. Some of those fabrics will either come apart in the washer or they will flame in the dryer. Some of them also are not very pretty after they are washed.

Well, I know its washable and I have been tugging at it to see if it comes apart with needle nose pliers and so far so good. It's going in the wash tomorrow, so wish me luck, I could have a pile of purple fuzz when its done!
