Hi all! Count me in as a newbie to the home embroidery craft hall! Am looking forward to hours of fun! Just got a Brother PE-180D machine and opened the box. There is no hoop or power cord! IS that normal? Since I can't actually play with the machine, I did the next best thing- read the directions! HA! So far so good, I have it threaded and the bobbin set. But I noticed that when raising the presser foot the lifting arm (near the nose of the machine) seems to be lifting something - but the presser foot itself doesn't move up or down! Not like a "normal" machine presser foot can be lifted or set down on the feed dog plate. Is this normal? Will the presser foot actually touch the bottom plate(and subsequently the material) when the machine actually gets powered up? There is definitely NOT as much pressure when moving this lifting arm as there is on a normal machine. Could it be that I have received a damaged unit? Any ideas where to get a power cord for this? I got the machine from "Ebay. It was supposed to be a new machine, but from the looks of the box- I am suspecting it is a refurbished unit. Not that that matters as long as everything works. But without a hoop or power cord, all I have right now is a huge paper weight! Help? Pleeeeze? Thank you! |

Parts/accessories can be purchased from Dealers and if you don't have one close by, call one and ask them to ship it to you. I have contacted manufacturers via their website and have always recieved a reply within a day or so. They are great resources for your questions, dealer locations, etc. Also information for comparing models. Remember, when you buy a sewing machine from Ebay or wherever, you got the machine. If you don't specify the accessories, etc. you did not do your part. Yes, a power cord should be part of the deal but unless it was advertised as part of the selling package, the seller is off the hook. Buyer beware. Frankly, since these machines are so expensive these days (Emb/Sewing) I would always purchase from a reputable dealer even if I had to drive a ways and pay a little more. Parts/service/warranty support is important to me. Warranties are not "transferable" on many machines, I did not even purchase a "pre-owned" machine from the dealer because she alluded to the fact that she would just use the original owners info should I have any warranty claims. The manufacturer confirmed via their website reply, that they do not transfer warranty to the new owner. I was not comfortable "using another identity" for this purpose. THAT did not feel right to me. Just my comfort level, maybe not yours. Murphy follows me around and I don't want a hassle with loose ends if I can help it. Sandy |

the power cord should be attached to your machine and a hoop should have come with it. the embroidery foot will move up and down as it stitches. You can purchase a hoop if needed and a power cord from a brother dealer, the hoop will run about $50 for a 180-D, I have no idea what a replacement cord will cost.

Yep the power cord & hoop should have come with the machine. I got the exact machine online, but ordered mine from an online sewing dealer that has a brick/morter store too. I got the manual, along with cd/dvd, stablizer samples, a little getting started package with threads, needles, scissors, etc. It let me play right away, give the machine a test drive, well after I flipped through the manual, and watched the cd/dvd.

I got mine on Ebay too. I was nervous because that is a lot of money, but my machine runs like a champ. Power cord and hoop and that little grid thingy... I forget what you call it, came with along with instruction book , no dvd or anything like that. But... a dealer should be able to help you out with cords and hoiops. The hoops are not cheap. It would not hurt to write to the seller and ask about the "standard accessories" before you buy an new hoop & cord. Sucks not to be able to play with your new toy. And true.. it is not like a normal machine.... it seemed like it was set up backwards to me til I got used to it I felt like I was "driving on the wrong side of the road"...lol Don't be so open minded your brains fall out.
